It's not all sweetness and light here. I have become de-sensitized to beige Ladas (they're like wallpaper) AND THIS IS A BAD THING.

Yet more foxy crap.

Gaffer tape and no wheel trims is the future.

More stuff like this, please.

When I'm on foreign business trips I try and get some of the local stuff photographed.  I did a few on Taiwan but they've been lost somewhere, I'm off there again next week so might do an update.

China Tom's threads about his far eastern mysteries were epic too

I'm happy to keep pumping this jizz out. I've met more interesting Bulgarians whilst photographing cars in the last couple of days than I would have done in a month of other 'cultural pursuits'. A lot are very proud of their shite, some just think I'm retarded.

Posted

Whilst doing this magnificent service for your public here, you need to investigate buying and selling chod.  If you can buy a Mondeo here for £500 with an only slightly fucked bumper, and sell it there for the equivalent of a grand, can you drive back one of those lovely foreign beauties and sell it in the UK?

Your profit margin will probably be in fractions of a penny and your potential market are probably all reading this thread, but it's got to be worth a go.

You could probably make more money from the road trip book you'd write afterwards, the crap car version of Don't Tell Mum I Work on the Rigs, She Thinks I'm a Piano Player in a Whorehouse

Posted

I'll have to check out the registration costs, plate changes etc. It's funny, a couple of people have mentioned Mondeos and they're possibly the only thing other than the BL Usual Suspects that I've not seen here at all. VAG on the other hand, that's where you need to be. That or a matt black E36 DRFT MASHIN, of which there are also loads.

I'll dump the last steaming load of pictures from this evening.

Some sample Moskvich prices as requested.

Decent looking Aleko - 375 pounds.

Crusty 2140's start at under 200 pounds, these two are at the higher end of the scale at around 400 apiece.

Great pics

Mk2 Astra Convertible is probably the least interesting, but it's reminded me i haven't seen one for ages!

I would love an Aleko, do they have a different engine to the Alpines?

GR8 thread.
Tempted to nip over to Bulgaria and get me one of those cheap late model Moskvitchs when I get my shite mojo back on (ie have some money).

Went for a stroll a bit further afield today and saw these.

I've been reading up on the Aleko, filling in some of the gaping holes in my knowledge.

Admittedly it was on Wikipedia so they're probably more 'facts' than facts but it was interesting none the less.

If anyone does fancy buying some Bulgochod then I will gladly help in any way I can. I'm going to be here for at least another winter yet, possibly much longer, it truly is a lovely place. I'll do some more research on the second hand market but deep down I know for every minute I spend looking at the classifieds, I'm a minute closer to owning a mustard Lada estate which I really, really don't need.

Wine shop now then MOAR PIX 2 FOLLO, including PHAT TRUX.

Bearing in mind that I'm right on the Black Sea coast, how the hell does this Alfa 90 have no discernable rust?

I think it must help that it is seemingly forbidden to wash your car here. Ever.

Junkman mentioned elsewhere that these have a 7 litre V8. Trust me, they sound OARSUM. A bit like a drunk muscle car with a 50 a day smoking habit. ULTRAHYPERASTROMEGAWANT.

I know they're Asconas over here but a Cav is a Cav. And this is a Cav.

And finally, I've posted both of these previously but they were residing at opposite ends of town. Today they had come together for an impossible to resist photo op.

No yank?

There must be a yank somewhere about.

Wherever you go, there always is a yank.

I'm on it.

Excellent set of pics. An epic set of shite given that these are all on the street. Can't remember the last time I saw a Wartburg or Moskvitch on the street. There looks to be more shite cars there than when I visited former Eastern Germany 20 years ago.

Oh, and a huge number of bonus points for capturing a Talbot on film (digits).

The intention this morning was to AVOID ALL SHITE.

Funnily enough there is hardly any real non-shite lurking in the backgrounds of these pictures either.

I have to admit it's not too difficult to hunt down the shite but there is plenty of modern dullardry here also.

Anyway, prepare for socks to be knocked off.

Seriously, if you are still there in about 9 months I might well have to pick your brains. I wonder how hard it is to import to the Czech Republic?

Sadly here there is very little shite left as the market was flooded with cheap second-hand German cars and the Favorit and Felcia were also very affordable when new.

Posted

I'd be happy to help. I'll be heading back to central Bulgaria for the winter where the chod is even more prevalent and less crispy than the seaside and quite probably be staying until, in my old age, I'm buried somewhere in the woods in a beige Riva Estate.

Almost forgot the rest of the shite from today.

In future I will definitely* be concentrating on quality over quantity. Too much shite.

Holy shite.

Sign me up for a beige Moskvitch or Wartburg, please. I want to be part of the epic shite rallye back, which seems to ensue in due course.

Gotta have driven some Cold War Motor back from fuggin Bulgaria of all places before I bite the dust.

Hugely impressive stuff - seems to be more full of shite than even Romania. Seen any Volgas?

Keep your eyes open for any of these... I can't get any info on them anywhere!
