I've always found Halfords own brand of paint to be different to what it's supposed to be. The mix to order paint is great if you get someone who knows/cares what they're doing. I worked in my local branch years ago and the mess that some members of the staff made of paint mixing was scary. If you can try to get a look at the machine they use to pump the paint into the spray cans if it's covered in paint and not clean it's obvious they don't care about the end result.

Halfords sunburst red is different to Ford's sunburst red, and my passenger door is a different colour to both. Front valance is now rusty, as is wing top.

 

Verdict.

 

Should have used more paint. And a stone guard on valance.

 

Fizz tin and halogen lamp lock up job.

 

Got a few grinder marks in a few places, used Halfords paint and rust remover to take off paint. Pretty good tool but definitely overkill if you're not careful.

If you are painting in the garage, might be a good idea to line the underside of the roof of the garage with some polythene sheeting, you don't want to spend ages getting prep right and then some 30 year old bits of expanding foam drop on the car...
