Stuttering Citroen Dispatch

A mate of mine has one of these for his catering firm, it's developed an occasional stutter/kangeroo tendancy. I had a look at it and it appears that there is some kind of air flap in the intake system that is being randomly accuated by a servo device attached to the expansion tank. Anyone had issues like this before?

I take it it's a diesel.

Air intake flaps on diesels are only there for emissions and can be disconnected / jammed open for diagnostic purposes.

You might get an error light eventually but reconnecting the flap would make it go away again.

A jammed open EGR valve can do this as well (along with clouds of smoke on acceleration)

Followed a Dispatch recently. He'd clearly got some issue as it wouldn't go faster than 20mph, then would but only kicking out a shit load of smoke. He helpfully put his hazard lights on and kept going at 40mph until he reached a pub. And that is the least helpful post you'll ever see.

It's a Diesel, not a HDI, looked like the older Pug unit. to be honest I only gave it a cursory glance over, but noticed the idle note changing, and at revs which seemed to be caused by the flap in the intake pipe.

If its not the HDi (DW10) its probably the DW8 1.9

My wifes DW10 does this when the EGR gets stuck open.
