I sort of like these

as I am sure many of you also do.

Where we possibly differ, is the reasoning.

I want* one because they remind me of J tin. Ironic, considering we all know who was copying who.

Am I the only one?

I quite like 'em. ^_^

Funny you mention the J tin as I would prefer a Datsun 120y Sunny or 100a Cherry of a similar vintage. In turquoise.

Mates dad had one when we were young it was either a super or a delux

What shade of beige is that?

Blue-y beige?

i've always fancied one, but for a slightly unusual reason.........i actually think it's a genuinely good looking car.

That said, i've never actually driven one so may hate it.....don't know till you try though eh?

I've always quite liked the Marina but I wouldn't climb over a Japanese 70s car or an Avenger to get next to one.  I think that's because of the same reasons I mentioned in the similar Morris Minor thread; they're just not obscure enough for me.  The owners go on about how rare they are but that's only survivors compared with production figures.  I'd much rather have something that has double or even single figure survival rates.

That being said, I expect a Marina is a decent enough old car to pootle about in and easy to drive with reasonable performance.  I also suspect that the build quality is on a par with most of its contemporaries.  Very much a nice piece of 1970s nostalgia too. It would have to be an early one though.

Verdict: one for the lottery hangar but not high on the must have list!

I wholeheartedly have to agree with the Avenger over Marina doctrine. This would also keep the Mopar-Or-No-Car crowd happy, no?

But there is a but.

The first one at school to have a motorcar was my pal Wojo, who happened to be from what was back then Yougoslavia, and his choice of shite was a 120Y. That year, we went in it to the North Cape and back. The car didn't put a foot wrong the entire trip, much in contrast to us, I hope you get the drift. But since this trip in 1979, I'm a firm believer in the bulletproofness of Datsuns. Does this make me want to buy one? Fugg yes!

However, if I now had the choice between a Marina, an Avenger, and a 120Y, I'd probably opt for the Bentley Turbo R.

Does anyone out there understand what I am trying to say?

I was chatting to my father-in-law about Marinas recently. His view of them is that they're shite, because he had a brown MkII estate and spent nearly every weekend fixing it. Proper engine-stripping stuff at times! I think the car was no older than six or seven years old at the time.

Given the Morris Minor underpinnings and the rush-job to produce it, I think it's a pretty good effort. I like the styling and motoring doesn't get much more simple.

The coooooopay is actually a nice looking car. I'd have one over an Avenger. The only reason being is that in the early 80's there was a chef at the hospital where I worked and he had one. It had every crap late 70's/80's add on accessory tat that you could dream of and it was bloody awful. I guess that experience damaged me for life.

THink they were given a really hard time by the press when they first came out and mud sticks.

Never driven one, but it is on my list. Are they reliable, do they have the 0-series engine? Surely some of the problems must be associated with ancient non-multigrade oil cars were using back then?

I'd like a Marina, but ideally a late model for extra shite points. Plus it's OMG RWD drift, so what could be bad about it?
