Excellent. Glad to see it's coming along. Will be a top sight at the BMC/BL rally this year if you can make it - a field absolutely chock full of shite. I loved it last year!

Excellent stuff B0110x. I like the wing mirror postioning so you can continually check out just how handsome you are while wielding the welder.

I did a doubletake when seeing this picture on the Wikipedia page for the ADO17...

Questions:

1) Is that one of the bints from B*witched** clinging to Westwood?

2) Why are these young women clinging to Westwood (age 50)

3) Why has Westwood got the Hemel Hempstead magic roundabout on his jumper?

** I have it on good authority that B*witched are in fact Mr_Bo11ox' second fave band, the first being 'Rednex': POPPIN' AN OAK!!!!1!Q!

You want to leave the bumpers off. It doesn't looks as hideous as it does with them on. Not a shitty 'rat look', but more stripped down.Well done with the welding, that looks fearful.

Chist almighty Mr.B, you should seek sponsorship from SIP, Corus and Air Products for the amount of welding you do

I'd completely forgot that old Blandcrab 8) looking good and ace welding skillz, in fact, I hereby decree that commerade Bollox enlist all herein to a 'practical welding course' and perhaps we could all club together and buy a shagged ADO16 with 'subframe issues' for the ultimate baptism of fire

I made a real psychological breakthrough on the old crab last night, check this out!

I am sick of opening the garage and seeing a car that never seems to look any better, well now it defo looks better. It used to be like this!

Posted Image

I sprayed it using this:

Normally I would laugh in the face of an electric spraygun, its the sort of 'designed for amateurs' gear that a garage snob like me would take pains to avoid! But, I could not face paying someone to paint the £150 crusty crab for me, and equally it needed too much bodywork to get away with rattle cans. So When I saw this (in 'classic + sportscar' of all places) i decided to give it a whirl. I figured being a bosch item it wouldnt be totally shite. It cost £60. Next I had to get some cellulose paint, this is hard to find nowadays as its been 95% outlawed by EU legislation, it is still out there but you have to look a lot harder than a couple of years ago. Eventually I found a brilliant shop in St Helens that mixed me up a couple of litres of limeflower for £35. I spent about the same again on isolator, primer, filler and wet and dry paper and have been farting about prepping it for the last couple of weeks.

The finish is not too bad, I had to modify the gun a bit as it was chucking out too much paint even on its lowest setting. But having done that I am pretty pleased with it. I will have to go over it with some super-fine wet and dry and the polishing mop but i'll do that next week.

I would give 7.5/10 for the colour match, better than I expected as this crab has defo been repainted in the past (yeah yeah I know, I forgot to mask the indicator light):

Posted Image

also I have got a bit to learn about getting the paint viscosity right, its a bit hit and miss, and I got a cracker of a run at one point:

Posted Image

I will put the lights etc back in next week, then I will feel like i've made some worthwhile progress at last! WOO-HOO!

Posted

Brilliant! I love seeing restorations on here and how they're coming on. Well done Mr B

Posted

Fantastic! Very interesting to hear your experience with an electric gun too as I keep swaying one way and another over how to sort out the Minx's paint. What was the modification you made? Was the Isolater a paint block coat?
