Citroen BX Turbo Diesel for sale

After a massive 2 weeks of ownership, a car on ebay has persuaded me I need to punt on Dollywobbler’s old BX.

These are the facts

MoT - November I think, but Dollywobbler couldn't put his hand on the certificate 2 weeks ago. You wouldn’t get that with a 20 grand Audi.

Tax - End of September

Price - £550. Please don’t hurt me more.

Where - Bedfordshire, MK45 1BZ but I work in Cambridge if that’s any better to see it.

It’s a 1769cc turbo diesel, it makes 90bhp and quite a lot of torque so zips along very well. Now on 110,000 miles, the cambelt was done at 95,000 and it easily passes 100mph on the speedo.

That doesn't show the paint on the bonnet, which is as rough as a town centre tart's make up. Interior is peachy though

An engine.

It drives very well, very comfortable but apparently not as floaty as other BXs. Doesn’t seem rusty in terms of its structure but small surface rust on bottom of rear doors, stays dry inside, electric windows work, electric sunroof works, heater control cable doesn’t but the fan and direction control does.

It’s a bit slow to rise up but I don’t know if it’s better or worse than most. I read somewhere that if you whizz it up and down for 15 minutes it works the system hard and that flushes any dirt in the fluid back to the reservoir. I did that and it now rises and falls better. There’s a small leak from a funny round hydraulic thing in the engine bay, spare funny round hydraulic thing supplied but DW just topped up the reservoir over the 5000 miles he owned it.

Ben came to see this today, his eyes were gleaming with delight. The LHM fluid hasn't dropped at all in the last 300 miles by the way.

Scooter, you have PM back

My suspicion with the leak is that it only happens when it's under pressure - ie running. Then it builds up on the regulator and drips when you park up. I think I topped up the level twice in 5000 miles. The previous owner warned me that he was having to top it up every month, but that was because both strut return pipes had sheared! One was spraying LHM everywhere every time the car sank down. I fitted two known-good new return pipes from AEP Direct. The ones on Ebay are shite.

Splendid car internally. The cabin feels like a nearly new car... Bonnet and bumper paintwork aren't 100% but not scruffy either, could probably do with the bonnet having some attention.

Engine sounded fine and I'm seriously considering this as my new daily especially with the mileage it has.

Was good fun meeting you Gareth! Even if I got an ear bashing from SWMBO for taking so long

Nice lookin motah ya got there fella. Good luck with selling it, TD's are brilliant chariots to smoke around in. I think it will go easily as they are quite sought after. Price is right too :)

1 BX is more than enough for me, or I could have been tempted. Ideally want as GS/A to add to the fleet.

No, the 205 is already with Mr Breadvan here, it's only the sudden appearance of a Porsche 924 in the right colour with the right interior that's made me sell.

The Porsche is a bit knackered, obviously, but swapping a working BX for a broken Porsche seems an excellent decision.

That interior looks very inviting! Alas my wife HATES BXs for some daft reason.

A very daft reason. Try leaving angular objects around the house to get her used to straight lines and sharp angles.

Anyway, miraculously, I have found the MOT certificate for this car and I can confirm that you have no test worries until November 8th of this very year. There were no advisory items - not even the slight leak from the FDV that it's had since before I got it...

If I didn't have the Mercedes, I can very confidently say that I'd be buying this back I think! Need a working BX.

Cool, can you stick it in the post please Ian? I'll PM you my address.

Tim, how about convincing her it's a DeLorean, it's angular and silver. How bad is her eyesight, exactly?

Posted

No probs.

I'm pretty sure it could be fitted with a flux capacitor if you were handy with electrics.

Gareth, could you kindly message me your exact address please.

Have planned a wee small Autoshite collection, with the use of a certain perodua nippa

Three up in a Proding Nipple will be hell. We have more suitable vehicles at our disposal.

Picked up by Minimad today, a pleasure to meet you, chaps.

I think I've found its replacement

Cool, it's a great car for eating up the miles. Although you could have gone back by bright orange spacehopper and it would have been more comfortable than the back of Warren's Beemer :D
