You NEED an 86 N12 Cherry - WITH PICS

First off, apologies for the lack of photos, it needs a load of salty sh1t hosing off first and that won't happen until tomorrow at the very earliest - EDIT - PICS ARE FURTHER DOWN THE PAGE, GO AND LOOK AT THEM. NOW!!!

Here's a pic of its arse at RRG12, which I've just stolen from someone's facebook:

So, one gleaming black slice of 80's Jap economy up for grabs. About 41,000 ish on the clock, runs like an absolute honey. All original, completely stock and un-modded, completely rot-free. Still has the factory underseal.

It's a 1.3 GS 'Spirit' which seems to have been a run-out edition, with a different badge and ltd-edition wheeltrimz! Only a 4-speed box, to be honest you won't want to do more than 65 in it for any length of time, but it's plenty fast enough for towns & back-roads. Feels larger than it is, mainly due to the soft and slightly wallowy ride (only on this site would that be a selling point...).

I changed the oil & filter about 1,000 miles back; I was going to change the plugs & leads, but they still look like new. It's had a new alternator at some point, along with 2 repair patches at the back of the sills. To be honest, the patches could do with some flap-wheel & hi-build primer action to really finish off the outside, but that's all.

Here's a list of all the things wot iz rong wiv it:

* Front valance is very rusty. That's the only part on the whole car that is, though.

* Bonnet has serious sun damage - SRP won't touch it, but I've not tried any proper cutting compound or mop action yet.

* The n/s rear wheel has a bit of a judder at around 65mph - as long as the tyre pressure is kept up it isn't a huge issue though.

* The windscreen is very scratched - the original broke and was replaced (not by me) with a used one, seemingly from an ex-rally car. Polishing might help with some of it.

* Tailgate struts no longer work - apparently K10 Micra struts should fit, but the ones I tried didn't.

* It has the obligatory faded bumpers - I doused them in linseed oil last summer and it lasted about 4 months. I'd probably just paint them next time.

* The original radio & (seperate) tape player don't seem to work, but I didn't have the heart to start hacking the fascia apart to fit a modern one.

And that's it. I suspect £400 is a ludicrously high price to ask, but that's how much I need.

My sh1tty stick is in my hands, waiting to beat off the stampeding hordes.

I remember that (my Bluebird is next to it) and it looked lovely. £400 sounds like a great buy

Consider me a horde, rampaging in your direction, Sir Duke! PM sent.

Finally took some pics today  Didn't get it properly waxed as I was hoping to, due to a particularly evil and lingering chest infection. Did manage to splash a bit more oil over the bumpers though 8)

Rusty valance (it's the same on the other side):

And the only other obvious bit of rust, at the back of the n/s/f arch:

And the dash:

Couple of other faults I forgot to mention: The rear wiper doesn't work, I never use them so never bothered trying to fix it, suspect it's a loose or dirty connector. Also, the rear of the dash is quite faded by the sun, linseed oil does nothing so it could do with spraying.

It's on Anglesey, however I'll be travelling to and from Herts in the next few weeks, so I could conceivably pick up a buyer en route.

These have the coolest method of opening the rear windowa EVAH.

Except that mine, being a lowly GS spec, doesn't :(:( In theory though, you could easily salvage the control console and mechanism from another car and fit it yourself.

Love the oval dials in these too....great memories of driving my mates Turbo back in 1990..

Arghhhh so much want. Anyone fancy a Yugo for £400?

God, that reminds me of my first car, a giffer spec datsun sunny. The 1.3 engine is brilliant in these.

Loving the giffer aftermarket brogue steeringwheel wrap, my sunny had one but in beige.

That was NOS, found at the back of a charity shop, still in the original late-70s box :D:D

Now that's something I would sell my Escort for.......... 8)

Just about every car I owned up until the 90s had one of these on it. I can remember getting quite good at fitting them so there were no loose bits of the plastic 'string'. :)

Buggered if I can remember who made them, anyone?

Forthcoming need for MONIEZ means this'll most probably go on the Bay this weekend, much against my ideal wishes. As such, I'll probably be sticking a fresh MOT on it to (slightly) lessen the chances of associated aggro.

So, if nobody buys it before then, either: 1) they'll miss out on a total bargain, and be kicking themselves as they watch the price go sky-high, or 2) they'll be grinning smugly as they watch the total absence of bids, before PMing me with a financially ruinous offer which I shall nonetheless be forced to accept.

I suspect the second option, but hey :P

It's been a long time since I looked at a dash like that. I spent a lot of hours in a N12 Cherry in my youth, a car my parents loved. Ours was an '85 1.3SGL 5 door so it had a digital clock, a rev counter and the slide switch thing between the front seats unlocked the rear doors.

With a bit over an hour left, my finger is firmly in this pie. Just so we don't step on each other's toes....

Number of watchers means nothing in my experience. At the most it's one bidder for every 20 watchers

:(

Well, I've still got just under 3 bidders, which is enough for a OMGBIDDINGWARRRR!!! in the last minute. Probably.

If there is going to be any action, this is where it will be..... home stretch now guys. Oh the suspense! :)

Did you win it, Edd?

It's mine! All mine, bwahahahahahaha......

Now I just need to sort out collection. Could be an epic weekend coming up, because I've bought something else too (thread to follow once I've collected that  ) and I need to see about moving-on the 406 now. It's a car I'll actually be sorry to see the back of, but I can't justify two big engines. Hence the Cherry.

I can probably help with some of the trip, Ed. It's an easy train ride 'twixt here and Mr Duke's so if you want it bringing as far* as Chester just let me know. Or possibly even Manchester as I can get a train back from there easily enough.

Posted

Billy, I can see myself taking you up on that, as the other one is at St Helens and I'll be stopping off in Manchester once I have it. Thank you!

Anyone along the M6/M56 corridor want a 406????

Posted

Bet we can sort something out, Ed, no bother. If you can get somewhere near Piccadilly in Manchester that'd be good as I think the train back is a direct one from there.
