I spent another fiver this morning.

Five litres of reasonable semi synthetic engine oil from the Porsche specialist I frequent.

I have no idea what sort it is, but it's what they use on every thing and they filled my can from the big barrel in the corner.

So that's £1232 so far this year excluding fuel - £72.50 a week

Posted

& taxed the T2 for 6 months at a cost of £123.75

£1355.75 / 18 weeks = £75.32

I've got belts and pulleys on the 944 coming up in October, but its not looking too bad yet.

I wonder if I'll regret doing this...

It's looking like an expensive year for me too. 2CV has already cost £500 to be MOTd, BX is going to cost a bleedin' fortune and the Merc could do with some fettling as well. Mind you, purchases aside, I didn't do too badly for the past two years. Catch-up time!

Scirocco back box failure - £87 fitted.

Total now 1442.75

We're in week 21 so that's £68.70 per week.

Its a brave man who tallies up what hes spent on his shite. I tend to hand over the readies and then forget how much it was.

Wheel wobble on the 944 was not cured by having the things balanced for ten pounds, so I repacked the hubs with grease and sorted it.

Wasted a tenner there.

So 1442.75

plus   10 above and then Porsche Insurance (comp £250 XS)

226.00 and I've had a bit of a coolant leak for a while, pressurised, a couple of leaks found & fixed.

         65

Running total now £1743.45

now on week 28

So - £62.28 per week.

Arse biscuits - week 32

Bit of a dodgy handbrake on the Porsche (apparently only working on one side) led Mrs barefoot to come over a bit grumpier than usual so off it went to my local specialist who replaced a seized cable, two discs, pads & handbrake shoes for an eyewatering £415.

So, £1743.45 + 415 = £2158.45 / 32 = £67.45 per week.

& I've still got an MOT on the Scirocco and a service with belts on the 944 to look forward to.

Scirocco mot and an hours labour to sort out a bit of a seized brake calliper - £80

Porsche 250,000 mile service and belts.

Also repair broken wiper linkage.

£555

£2793.45 / week 41

£68.13

Eleven weeks to go...

Oops forgot Scirocco insurance

£159 comp £250 xs

£2952.45 / 41

£72.01

Posted

Did you include the cost for today's MOT? ;)

He didn't charge me for it!

Following the fitting of the new belts, the 944 whined like a whining thing when fired up.

So I took it back and a dodgy tensioning roller thing was diagnosed and replaced.

£25

Plus another fivers/6 months worth of oil

£2982.45 /42

£71.01

On an even more exciting note, he has purchased a new loan car.

Only a fucking Cityrover!

I can hardly wait to have a go in that.

volvo 240 torslanda:

rear exhaust box and over axle pipe- £150 (yes, I know but I needed it done quick)

service items £40

front brake pads £20

chemical metal for sticking the radio aerial back together £7

MOT £50

Tax £225

insurance £200

£692...still cheap motoring I reckon, I don't normally factor in wear and tear items like brake pads or servicing because you'd have the same expense with ANY car. This one's done 205,000 miles so stuff wearing out is to be expected.

The downside is of course the several Torrey Canyon's worth of petrol its used. totted up it would probably be cheaper to buy some modern diesel on tick. what price exclusivity?

Er, let me wotk mine out.

Audi Coupe - Cambelt kit £138 + 2 tyres £120, plugs & leads £60, oil £30, filters Ã‚£15, gear oil £15 = £378/42 = £9

GT6 - Sills £120, welding equipment £30, wheels and tyres £65 = £215/42 = £5.11

Imp - £15pm rent on lock up = £150 / 42 = 3.57

Lancia - Wob £10, Tin of Hammerite £20, money from sale of car -£1,900 = -£1,870/42 = £-44

That gives a total £26.32 per week profit for this year for owning my 3 cars (not including fuel). *

* Obviously if I lengthen the accounting period and take into account the cost of the Lancia to purchase in the first place and the cost of doing it up this will change somewhat but I am choosing not to do that as I like it this way round.

Posted

So, looking at it another way, the t2 will be scorned at the end of the month.

422.65 on fuel

665.75 everything else

1088.40 = cheap motoring?

Those things are ace and pretty much indestructible. everyone laughed at my dad on his c70 back in the early 80s. but with only putting 4 litres of fuel in it per month he was the one laughing

Collapsed 944 engine mount - vibrating like a buzzy thing when accelerating, decelerating or cruising.

£125 fitted

£3107.45/44

£70.62 per week

The weekly cost has remained much the same throughout the year

But the total is becoming frightening.

I still have fuel costs to add on!

Scirocco centre exhaust box and pipes £38

£3145.45/week 50

£62.91 per week.

I'll tot the whole lot up at the end of next week when no more expense will be expendable, add in total fuel costs by vehicle and divide by mileage to get pence per mile running costs over the year.

I expect that this will prove that an old Porsche is more expensive to run than an old Volkswagen.

Scirocco has inexplicably been running like a pig, the last couple of weeks.

In a fit of peak, (I am not a mechanic), I loosened the bolt that secures the distributer, I've seen this done before and gave it a good fuck off twist.

The engine stopped, i put it back to where it used to be and took it to the garage, Nick diagnosed an air leak, replaced an inch of hose, charged me a tenner and sent me happily on my way......
