For Sale 1974 Leyland by Austin Morris Autosleeper

The time has come - I have moved house and the Sherpa (so old it isn't a Sherpa) is up for sale. I've done nothing since buying it apart from a few runs out and it has languished as I move house and now resides in a corner of the driveway.

Starts on the button but needs the new (secondhand, good and supplied) radiator fitting as the old one is holier than Pope Francis. Will drive anywhere, noisily and with a bit of steering wander - can reach the heady heights of 70mph, stops and starts but has some rust issues - most obvious is the passenger side step, which will need rebuilt and renewed - on a separate chassis so easy to do and less of an issue than having to get it spot on, as with a monocoque. Fitted with the single carb version of Austin's finest B series 1800cc engine (as also fitted to the opentop version and the Marina)

Ideally, she's a restoration project and by no means too bad not to have MoT'd for this summer as a project - all the internal camper van fittings work and she has a decent stereo fitted too. She will need some window seals too and some patches and small bits of welding all over, before a blow over.

Infinitely rarer than a Type 2, infinitely cheaper than a Type 2, more space than a Type 2, better looking than a Type 2, and no Type 2 scene tax.

I'm after £650 but worthy shiters will get a discount on this price.

PM me.

Erm... the 1700 was an OHC and never went into the MGB? You sure you don't have the 1800 there? The 1700 was a later fitment.... 1978 onwards, I reckon!

Aye, CP is a Bradford reg I think (I would love an RCP 90 reg number in homage to the best gun in Goldeneye on the N64). I doubt it will hang around long at that price.

Bloody hell, that's fab. Take it there's no current Mot or rent on it?

nope no MoT or Rent, hence the price -and a similar T2 would be £2-3k I guess.

It's not bad, but more work than I want to commit to and I really, really want to do something with the Schmitt and my rather dead smart which needs a clutch fitting.

I also have way too many vehicles now but I would swap so WHY

For once, being skint has saved me from a foolish (but worthy) purchase! To work out how much a comparative T2 would cost, stick a 0 on the end of any camper price, especially if it's at the bottom of a Norwegian lake or halfway up a German mountain surrounded by pine trees and needs a helicopter for removal.

you're confusing it with splittie prices - a ratty bay would be 2-3k, with it t&T'd at about £4-4.5 and perfect from £9-15k.

In comparison, basket case Sherpa - scrap, runner needing restored £650 (obviously), t&T'd but ropey - £1-1500 and perfect nick about £3k.

I'd rather have the Sherpa (or in my case Leyland 240 by Austin Morris. ;-)

Someone buy it and let me have one less vehicle.

Totally pointless and unhelpful reply,

But if I had any spare money I would buy this instantly! However, I don't have any cash, spare or otherwise! Want, can't have.

Ho Hum.

This is Scooters old one isn't it? I have actually been in this before when I picked up the DAF from him. Rather nice it was too.

it's a 75 on a 74 build - buy it in preparation for next year's one year uplift on free rfl!

Cameron,

You still got this for sale?

If so am very interested in taking it back up to scooters mansions as I now have the storage! Collection might not be for a few weeks if OK with you but well up for it

Just out of interest- what sort of money would a T2 of similar age and condition fetch?

A '74 T2 is quite late and getting towards late-model snobbery but still, five large easily for that condition, 7 in the summer. And that'll be for a standard model that doesn't go up hills.

If I had a garage or a driveway etc etc, that thing is lush. I'd take it to all the VW shows, make bedding from the leftover £20 notes I didn't spend on a T2 and laugh at the scene mongs.

Sorry Campbell, I called you Cameron, too many ales last night, and the auto correct keyboard (I flippin hate these things - designed for cretins - it will be self wiping arse paper next! another useless gizmo, like the electric handbrake, as much use as a cock flavoured lollipop)

in the sober light of day I am still interested in this example of a mid 70's MGB estate!
