Citroen BX19TGD estate for sale - deposit taken

Pains me to do it but I just don't have the money to get the BX sorted, so while it has Tax AND MoT, it is for sale.

1991, 190k miles, pretty comprehensive service history (full to about 2011).

Downsides are corrosion in the rear crossmember and LH rear wing and it could do with a cambelt and waterpump (can be included for an additional £30). The clutch bite is soft so that will need doing before too long, but it doesn't slip. Tick-time is about 7 seconds, so a new accumulator will be needed fairly soon. Hydraulics are generally fine, but I am getting intermittent PAS. I don't suspect the pump as the car is very quick to pressurise and rise. Had the same issue at 150k miles but was cured by a Hydraflush. I also suspect it has a mild air leak as it needs priming to start from cold if left for a few days.

Has just had brand new rear discs and pads. Pistons seem to be moving nicely.

I know distance is an issue but I will deliver anywhere in the UK for the cost of my travel.

Tax and MOT until June. £250!

Now has a rear wiper fitted again. RH caliper has torn slider boots, but sale includes a spare caliper.

Sounds like a genuine reason for sale then... Not enough money in the world? :D

(PS. French is best*)

I'm not going to pretend it's immaculate! Trying to be realistic as I don't want someone assuming it's all fine. I should just stash it away in a barn really, but I don't have a barn...

'twas only in jest! Have had two of these over the years. No real issues TBH. Only the problem of finding a garage prepared to work on em without the usual nonsense being trotted out.

Totally off topic, but would love to get Mr Bollox' recipe for lentil dal if he is still here.... Seriously!

I suspect nicking the other half's hairdryer would get the stickers gone, though I can't be held responsible for any domestic strife that results from this.

Pretty sure the rear arm bearings are ok. I had to replace one when I got it - t'was very noisy - but I think the other side must already have been done.

One other detail. I have removed the self-cancelling indicator collar, but this can be refitted with nae bother. Yes, I hate self-cancelling indicators that much.

Now DW where was this a week ago? Doubt I would have been allowed the "Premium" priority boarding and access to the Plus Lounge I paid Stena for if I turned up in this though..... Still - bad timing!

I did consider you Luke, but I'm not exactly close to Birmingham. Actually, that's not entirely true. It's about £25 to get here on the train and a very pretty route it is too.

I dont think you will have any problem finding a new home for it at that money. Good luck all the same.

Timely bump from Mr Croker there, I need to PM you, which I shall do.... now.

If you do buy it, make sure that you keep the tiger motif on the bonnet ^^

If I wasn't battling to get the Princess ready by the end of the month I would likely have already bought it, or at least put a substantial deposit down. Frustrating~ I'm not making ANY plans about what I'd do to it because it's likely someone else will grab it before me at the price it is, even with the faults listed.

I could probably offer some kind of Vanishing Point - esque delivery service if you pay for my train ticket, should shiters be stuck for collection. I'm not in University every day - I just do three mental days instead of four chilled ones.

I cannot guarantee a JB Pickers soundtrack or a 1971-spec Charlotte Rampling though. Big boot though, I'm sure I can improvise.

Or (depending on time and day) I can collect Jon in the 306, run him to Ian's, follow him to buyers house then run him back again for fuel costs which are likely to be minimal.

Well, since I've stuck a deposit on this I'll need to work out a sensible and affordable way of getting the car to me when I've paid the balance. I think the Cavcraft-Watanabe Courier Service may well be the best option. Nice four hour drive between me and the BX too, so it'll be an adventure.

Cor. That did not hang around long. Congrats to the seller & congrats to the buyer. Welcome to the wonderful & character building world of BX ownership :)

That 4x4 is well overpriced. They've got a crap transmission, clutch changes are an absolute nightmare and the exhaust system is entirely bespoke, which I suspect is why it's missing. Could get a stainless one custom made, but that'd be a large chunk of the asking price I suspect. Shame as a 4x4 estate would be a bloomin' useful thing if it actually worked.

Posted

What does the clutch change involve, do you have to take the transfer box off or something?

Looks very appealing in spite of the 4x4 issues.

Exhausts are well into the hundreds to have made and you'd be very lucky to buy an OE one anywhere. The transfers boxes are Cadbury's finest as already suggested.

You have to be half dedicated, half mental to buy one. Keith Davis Citroen specialist allegedly has two 4x4 estates standing around.

They're very much a collectors-only choice. There is some mad bugger in Scandinavia somewhere who's built a 16-valve 4x4. Required some thorough engineering! After all, the Peugeot Mi16x4 doesn't seem too bad from what I've heard.

As before Angyl - when I have my car back from the paint shop, chip in for fuel and I'm more than happy to take you there and convoy back! Let me know when you're thinking and we can work from there mate.

Great, I'll wear my big coat with the microcar sized pockets!
