Not very good Alfa 164 - £150

This shitbasket may be remembered from Ebay Tat:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1996-ALFA-ROM ... 7675.l2557

My father considered it worth a gamble. It wasn't, really.

It drives okay and generally works. But: the clutch master cylinder is sticky (suspect bloated seals) and the coolant is suspiciously brown and greasy (assuming this is anything other than headgasket seepage would be churlish).

The LPG system is a peasant-spec single-point injection system. It's basic and theoretically reliable - but it's not very good.

A few weekends and £100-or-so would turn it into an adequate winter hack. But we quickly decided that we couldn't be arsed, and it's been serving as a workbench ever since - and role for which, thanks to Pininfarina's 80s ruler, it's ideal.

If anyone wants it - it's yours for £150. If not, it's going into the scrap metal skip.

It's near Chippenham, Wiltshire.

If you were closer I'd be interested in it for parts, engine/ancillaries, poss gearbox. Unless I'm mistaken it's the uncommon 8v (like my 155) but by the time I got it back to Lincs I doubt it'd be worth the hassle.

Looks like the 16v one there?

I like the shape of these, it's a bit quirky, but the reputation Italy has with producing 'beautiful' cars, it looks like a Proton.

Blimey!!

I'm 99% sure I sold that car from when it was almost new. It was an ex Alfa GB management car from when they were all registered in Bristol (God knows why) and it was sold via SGT in Taplow where I worked as a salestosser during 1995-6. Alfa GB were registering all the unsold and now discontinued 164's and SGT was around the corner from Alfa GB in Slough so got first dibs on everything. That one is a Super Lusso, and it's done well.

Yes, it is the 8v engine, the proper Alfa unit with the alloy block, forged steel crank etc and not the Fiat based shit that the 156 had.

No idea why this hasn't been snapped up yet. I'm almost tempted myself..

Fix it!! Head gaskets are easy on that car.

PC needs some more italian cars, They are basically well made cars, fast and not bad on fuel.

Tragic to scrap it. If i did not have two Alfas and two Fiats at the moment i would.

Fuck me, a Tchaika!

Somewhere on here there's a link to a YouTube vid of that beastie being started up, after years of not doing so. You really really want to watch that! Sadly I have no idea where it is any more.

In complete contrast just beside the Chaika is a familiar canvas wonder which also makes an interesting sound on start-up! Good to see her tucked up in there, Sam!!
