and it works on my mate's C Max as well!

Press and hold the trip button on the left stalk while starting the engine, until TEST appears in the instrument display, then press the trip button to cycle through the various things that it does. Chucks up fault codes and so on.

A quick call to Charles Hurst Jaguar this morning confirmed that it works on all Ford-era Jags, Volvos, Lincolns and their contemporaries wearing The Blue Oval. The chap I spoke to says it works on Aston Martins too, but he didn't know the sequence.

Hmmm, apparently my mk2.5 can do it but not the cool stuff, just the instrument sweep and LED check.

My E36 had a similar dial sweep activated in a similar way. I wanted it to do it all the time, like a racing car. Vroom vroom!

Will try this later on the Focus, that's if I can get the bloody thing started at all as the temperature's been below zero since the last time it moved

I'll try it on my XJ8 tomorrow, when I get it back from my mate Fleetwood who's borrowing it after he dropped a valve in his SuperSnipe (one of about 15 Hawks, SuperSnipes and Imperials he owns, along with 3 Stags and a very early Metro).

Works on Mondeos / Scorpios etc as well. Quite useful as on the Scorpio it's easier to clear codes with that than with OBD.

My A4 does it too, accessed via the HVAC controls and displayed down by the centre console. Bit pointless having a digital speedo down there but my heating and A/C do nothing at the moment anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

Renault thing noted. I phoned Charles Hurst Renault about my ex-girlfriend's Clio: "Hello, Charles Hurst"

"Hello. I'm calling about my girlfriend's Clio, it's in with you for a crankshaft pulley Reg is YCZ xxxx"

"Oh God, is that bloody thing yours? The boys have been cursing that thing up and down all day"

Really funny!

Lol! Aye hold the trip button on the wiper stalk while turning the key.

Hurst at Boucher or Chimney Corner? I was put off Boucher Road by the "technician" who didn't know what a Vel Satis was...

All Renaults do it... it's mad watching the dash go nuts :P

Feckin Focus refused to start - new thread on the way :(

Interesting about Renaults doing it too, I'll give it a go on the van tomorrow!

Boucher mate. They know me as I used to work there in the Austin Rover days. We ran out of water pumps one time, and I ended up pulling out water pumps from brand new Rover R8's sitting in PDI. There was a chap there from Rolls-Royce at the time, and he was horrified!

Then there was the time that 2 techs took out a whole line of new Nissans at PDI with a Renault 25 V6 Turbo.

Despite all this, my family still buys cars from Hursts! Credit where it's due, my Dad bought his XF-R from them and they phone up to make sure everything's OK.
