ANPR in rural areas

Just spent four days in a North Wales village and noticed several of 'our type of cars' being driven enthusiastically and often! Great!

Thing is, three out of the seven interesting cars spotted had properly expired tax discs and were obviously rather unroadworthy.

A matt black (1989?) Toyota MR2 had a tax disc that expired in 2010... A 1988 Nissan Prairie had no tax disc displayed at all and no offside front wing either.

A 1992 Escort with no bumpers, missing rear lights and a tailgate tied on with rope! Tax disc expired in March 2011.

All clearly in daily use.

Should we be angry, jealous, or simply move to North Wales?

A town called Royston near Cambridge was recently criticised by everyone for having every route in and out of the town covered by ANPR.

It's not exactly a big place either, in the middle of no where. So, it does happen.

Presumably ANPR in Wales has a different meaning! ... Maybe it is a welsh word for something? :?

maybe they know that anpr cameras are not always running, don't record and are never monitored.

There's not much ANPR here in Northern Ireland either. With people beating the shit out of each other and throwing petrol

bombs and bricks for leisure, they kind of have bigger fish to fry. Even in Belfast I'd say a good proportion of cars have expired something... I walk past a good few cars a week out of tax. My ex girlfriend's tax was up on her Megane CC in March. She drives it daily!

They're not meant to be monitored, they just take a still photo if they read a reg plate that twangs up an offence of whatever type it's looking for. I believe even the bus lane ones are automatic now - they read the plate, if that plate refers to anything other than a PSV, it prints out a nice letter.
