Scrote 1.6 Zetec estate up for grabs, West Yorks

Hey all

My nephew needs to sell his black T-reg. Escort 1.6 Zetec estate, it's the run-out model and has all the toys (alloys, air con, etc.).

MoT has just expired but it's got rent until the end of the month. According to the failure sheet it mainly needs some welding around the suspension mounts and attention to the brake lines (I haven't looked myself, been far too busy). I told him I'd do the work for him if he could wait for me to deal with my own shizzle first, but he says the car's too big for him anyway so it has to go. It's in far too good cosmetic condition to send over the bridge, if I remember rightly there's not a single dented panel on the car. Mileage is about 97,000.

He's looking for £250, and the car's in West Yorks.

I'll upload some pics & full details as soon as he sends me them, just thought I'd post this now to gauge interest.

Bad news John, these are worth the square root of sweet FA, even with a new test, so I fear it may be bridge-bound. Sad but true.

The fact it's an estate might make it worth a score more, but that's it.

FWIW if anyone takes it on, I still have a 3dr breaker on the field here for cheap parts.

SIlvertop Zetecs are good kit car fodder from these, as I believe they have the canted oil filter mount on the pump. This means they fit the squeezed rails of earlier Fords, and it makes it an easier conversion. It should all drop into a Fester Mk1/2 with a little juggling too.... Is it worth "baying" it as a kit car donor or ripe for engine donation?

Posted

Joe: yep I know, but it's such a cosmetically straight car it seems a shame to send it over the bridge.

Hmmm... kit car / engine rape donor... that's not a bad idea, Albert. I'll mention it to my nephew as an idea.

I know someone in Bradford who may be interested. I'll contact him in the morning.

Any known faults apart from the MoT failure? Do the toys all work?

Posted

Yep, I believe so.

Best hang fire on contacting your mate until I've got all the details though (and pics)... I should have them at some point over the weekend.

Those alloys might be worth a few quid as they are the nicer looking 7 spokes as well as the boot spoiler, The rest sounds uneconomical to repair to me.

Sounds FUBAR’d to me. Agree with Trigger though, those alloys could fetch a bit. But I don’t like the idea of it being crushed or whatever. Maybe break it for spares?

But I don’t like the idea of it being crushed or whatever.

Well yeah, that's what I think.

I've certainly repaired much worse than this... there's an afternoon with the MIG in sorting out the corrosion near the suspension, the rest of it is just mild spannering & some consumables, really. And perhaps a used lambda sensor to sort out the emissions (KruJoe, do you have one on your spares car?).

Posted
KruJoe, do you have a lambda sensor on your spares car?

I think so John, it is the one Lambda sensor here untouched by the efforts to MOT Olga!

I'll check in daylight tomorrow, and report back.

John, I went up to it last night. The sensor's still there and after a quick go at it with an open-ended C-spanner, it wasn't willingly coming out. But it's there and I'll have another go if you need it. I gave it a dose of WDcheapo.

The plug is a bit melted (it has touched the fannymould) and may need to be cut off anyway to get a ring spanner on it. Do you have a soldering iron to put your plug on it?

The car died of HGF a few years back, so there's a chance it may be contaminated...

I sadly and somewhat reluctantly fragged a similar one last year, similar story, but when advertised the muppets that came to view were just timewasters, the HAI M8 £200 KOLLECT NOW bunch got it.

Depends if anyone wants it, Joe... otherwise it'll go over the bridge or for spares / repairs / oval to some ebay mong

That's quite a long list. I'll send the link to my mate, but I am sure that he'll run a mile.
