1950's or 60's Citroen DS action Glasgow

A friend of mine emailed me this interesting shot today. It appears to be an early DS in a Glasgow street, not sure what one as this is way before my time & Glasgow has changed hugely over the years.

From my reckoning it is an early Slough built car, really early, as the centre exhaust was only for the first few years. Also another interesting point is the number plate G1. The G & single digit cars were for official Glasgow city Council dignitaries, even today Glasgow's Lord Provost (our equivalent to a Mayor) smokes around in a VW Pheaton wearing G0 plate. Reg transfers has G1 valued at just £825000! Wonder how much G0 is worth. The council must have sold off their other plates at some point.

Classy! Can't quite make out the street name on the corner

I'd hazard a guess at "Maryhill Road", but you never know...

Most likely if it is anywhere near Maryhill, the tenements behind may well have been demolished in the late 60s or early 70s.

Fantastic period photo too - love the numberplate, "G1"!

Check out the old school shoe shop too "Cumfy Feet"

Look at the guy hanging out of the Maryhill tram window!

"Oh no I've dropped my fag!"

"Its gone man, just let it go..."

That's the corner of Maryhill Rd and Bilsland Drive. These tenements are still there today.

The story with the 'G1' number plate is that the council couldn't persuade its owner to part with it, (Or not for a sum they were willing to afford) so they asked DVLA to allow them the use of 'G0' on the official Lord Provost's car.

'G1' has recently changed hands for an undisclosed sum..... 8)

Think the 'domed' rear lenses, including the indicators, denote this as a Slough car, along with the unusual shaped reflectors on the back of the wings.

What a fabulous shot. Makes the DS look even more futuristic! It looks utterly out of place, like me in London.

DS suspension was perfect for cobbled streets of Paris, so a bonus in Glasgow. :D
