kinkersaab Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 NO pic as yet, but trying to thin my fleet have sold my R plate jag, taken back this beauty.Wheel trimz F.T.W. Also beige cloth.the enthusiast i am getting it from has had it sinse 29k and i expect it to be mechanically A1. (fussy lad)The mot runs til april 2013 and its taxed until next august. Greyish geen in colour and a very original looking old thing it is, with frilly bits on bottom of front wings, all looked solid enough that if you hit it with a hammer it would dent rather than hole. I expect to get it monday, so will ammend this then and add a picture or two.
RobT Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 2.9 manual is it for bonus shite points?! I was tempted by one of these too, but not sure it'd fit in my garage so got the Beemer instead.
kinkersaab Posted October 31, 2012 Author Posted October 31, 2012 sorry to dissapoint, 'tis a 3.2 auto.
Magnificent Rustbucket Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Good to see another XJ40 on here! - I'd have thought there would be more XJ40s than there are on Autoshite, given what you get for the money. I have a '92 Sovereign with the small engine too. I look forward to the pictures.
kinkersaab Posted December 8, 2012 Author Posted December 8, 2012 right, i have done over 2000 trouble free miles in this old girl. NO issuses! it has now done 88000miles, there is a full history and loas of reciepts. rust is pretty much all on leading edges of front wings, and nothing like as bad as i was expecting, its all still touch upable with a wee bit of paint and easyily enough disguisable. I havent really bothered. engine box and all mechanical stuff seem faultless. except intermitent clock and elec arial, all elecs seem to function properly. I have been averaging 23mpg, but did manage 28 on a run south and back. tax is until end august next year, mot end april from memory. i see no reason it wont sail another. interior is although not leather, in spotless condition. her are some shit pic for your perusal.
purplebargeken Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Nice buy! Clock? They all do that sir. Arial is helped by using a generic cleaning wipe but do it upwards, not downwards as it forces cack into the jointy bits.
kinkersaab Posted December 8, 2012 Author Posted December 8, 2012 ah, just to clarify, it is still for sale, I haven't bought it off myself.
triumph1300 Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 This really looks quality. I can't believe jags are worth so little. I wish I could buy this! Glws
mk1_4dr Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 That does look like a HUGE bargin. Are those interior lights in the back of the seats?
Morgan84 Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 Sat on some nice Lattice alloys, that would look a really nice car, which with some tlc is getting ready to become a nice future classic.About 15 years ago,you couldn't give a series 3 Jaguar away - now look at what they can fetch;with these XJ40's,its a case of buy now to avoid future dissapointment
purplebargeken Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 Whoops, got my wires crossed there Try the arial tip though, 'tis a well known issue. I've had a fair few XJ40's and loved 'em. This one is a beaut and a complete bargain. About 15 years ago,you couldn't give a series 3 Jaguar away - now look at what they can fetch;with these XJ40's,its a case of buy now to avoid future dissapointment Couldn't agree more!
Magnificent Rustbucket Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 This looks a lovely old thing. If someone wants to fit leather seats from a 1993/1994MY Sovereign, it is a very easy job. All XJ40s have the same loom, so the wiring for electric seats is there already. You just need the control modules which plug in infront of the seats - and the centre console with the switches too, of course. The interior looks in excellent condition though, so I'm not sure I'd bother.A faulty clock is standard fare on the X300, but fairly unusual on the XJ40. Provided the rust isn't a problem (look on the sill to floor joins and the bulkhead - late cars can rust badly there) then there is no catch to running these. They're strong reliable cars, cheap to insure and quite frugal for their size. XJ40s will never be cheaper. They can rust like buggery though.
Skizzer Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 That's very sweet, especially for the money; I love the velour interior. One Jag is enough for me though. GLWTS...
aldo135 Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 You interested in a swap for a Montego http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C325349
kinkersaab Posted December 9, 2012 Author Posted December 9, 2012 hmmm, possibly. and how much folding stuff? is the heater working yet?
aldo135 Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 Haha have a think about it! Car is ok just fancy a change. Heater works ok, I'm maybe a bit slow but didn't get that! Needs an autoshite carpet headlining as the current one is sagging a bit!
kinkersaab Posted December 9, 2012 Author Posted December 9, 2012 £300 my way plus the tego and i will deal.
Morgan84 Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 The Montego is more money than the Jag ! A few years back that would have been unheard of
aldo135 Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Hahaha I'd need the £300 for fuel to bring the jag down the road! Thanks for your generous valuation, think I'll leave it, cheers
kinkersaab Posted December 10, 2012 Author Posted December 10, 2012 The Montego is UP FOR more money than the Jag ! A few years back that would have been unheard of E.F.A
aldo135 Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 English Football Association? Just got the heater reference that's the gold monty! I have a red rover 1.6, that's about to be relisted on carandclassic.
RichardMoss Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 WOOF! XJ40 base. Very nice. The best looking XJ40s, in my opinion. Far nicer than having the ugly "fishtank" headlights and a leak-inducing sunroof
Guest Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Get out of here Dickie! Square headlamps FTW. True '80s style, like Joan Collins shoulder pads.
RichardMoss Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Get out of here Dickie! Square headlamps FTW. True '80s style, like Joan Collins shoulder pads.Yeah - that's the way - make your executive saloon look like a Talbot Horizon
Magnificent Rustbucket Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 A Forty needs Fishtanks! - They're just not the same without them. Agree over the sunroof though - they're terrible!
Guest Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Aye, sunroofs. FTB. Has nobody bought this wreckage yet so I can move on with my life?
