New Shite on the block

I've been mosey-ing around on here for a while, poking about at various threads with great interest (Such as the ebay tool haul and the bus shite threads!).

I hope Cavalier owners are welcome here! It's certainly a shite-er!

200,000 miles and still running on the same 1600 electric tooth brush motor from new!

I'm possibly* a bit biased but Cavaliers are always welcomed on here. Extra bonus points to you for having a pre-facelift Cavalier by the way, though these (points) may have to be removed again if you don't bin that (GSi?) grille. Got anymore pictures of the car by the way please, interior etc? I'm assuming (probably wrongly) it's an 'L' spec and I hope it's a saloon!

Welcome along.

Looks like a hatch to me. And I like the grille 'upgrade'. Are they Astra alloys?

Even more worrying - aren't those post-facelift wiper arms? OMG UR CONKURS PHAIL!

Amazing how few early Mk3s you see about the place, especially in such lowly trim (and I can forgive the grille upgrade as the original was always a bit naff).

welcome to the forum! A long since scrapped cavalier of mine had a later grille and earlier bonnet and so had 2 vauxhall badges on its snout

Welcome, cav looks lovely 8)

And Lanky Tim , you just made me lol my tea all over the comp!

The grille has since gone back to standard. It was only temporary to replace the empty hole that was there. Either way, I think the front end of the car still looks smart enough!

Also, the wiper arms were losing all of their colour and are a complete ballache to lift when you need to replace the blades requiring the bonnet to be open for one, and closed for the other. These aren't specifically facelift/non-facelift parts, as anything from "J" onwards had them which included the last of the ph.1's up to a K-Plate and then Ph.2 from there.

She's not a bad old tub, it runs well enough and still returns 40mpg average with my driving style.

I'll concede the points on the wipers - both the ridiculously piss-poor design of the originals and their coming in before the facelift (as per the rather tasty red hatchback on the Ebay thread at the moment).

So, the Cav a first dose of 'shite for you, or do you have previous?

The 1.6 Diesel was an absolutely delightful piece of excrement, but it was £50 from some old boy down the pub who'd had the engine removed from his Cavalier GL D Hatchback (Which was rear ended) put into his Cavalier Estate. It was an amazing thing really, it managed to be gutless, uneconomical and unpleasant all in the same moment. The only good thing was, it didn't get any more gutless with an addition of a large amount of weight, for example, my ex Mother In Law.

The Cavalier has been in my blood for some time, my Grandfather gave me the SRi 8v and the 1.6L (Mk2) and the current one is just an absolutely glorious car that has managed to stay out of the hands of old giffers due to it's lack of PAS (Feels much nicer to drive in all fairness).

Plus, it's got 90BHP which is pretty much the same as a 1.8-2.0 Sierra (Pre-DOHC).

Other shite includes a brown Datsun Cherry that lasted a few days before an inconsiderate deer ran into it and dislodged all of my structural rust!!!!!

It was bought privately by my Dad who wanted a play thing. It was on a J-Reg but was a re-shell of a highly modified 3-door that'd been rear ended rather hard. It was originally a 1.4 CDi saloon in a light metallic blue and had retrofitted heated leather, AC, ABS and was a complete boon to drive. It was sold in Ipswich to a collector who was a true shite-er with the likes of a Cadillac Brougham and so on!!!
