Scottish Vintage Bus Museum Open Weekend 2012

After much burning of midnight oil and a bit of bodgery Autoshite's resident Leyland National 2 is all but done bar some details so it'll be at the rally at the SVBM Lathalmond tomorrow and Sunday. I'll be the long haired shattered looking one so if anyone pops through say hello :). With a bit of luck we may even manage a couple of skelps on the free bus services to Dunfermline.

I'll post Shiteworthy spots from the weekend on here on Monday or thereabouts. The signal is generally pretty shite on the site but if anyone wants to PM me I'll try to catch them if a mini AS gatecrash is on the cards :)

Say hello to Walter burt from me.

If I can get access to an automobile that bastard works I will be there on Sunday. Only working car I have is too low for the grass parking area. Are they doing a free park and ride from Dunfermline again? .

I hope to see and hear your Nash there. If its doing a run I'll jump on it as I prefer that to the older buses.

Nice one on getting it going!

Should be there tomorrow, all else being equal!

Using, u can has PM.

*Iain...bloody predictive text.

I will be there in the beige beauty on Sun (that's the plan at the mo, but subject to change)

What livery is your nasher in, or have you been brave and done an 'Autoshite Coaches' livery :D:D:D

You don't need to park on the site if the grass is too long / muddy. I parked just outside a few years back as there is plenty of room.

Posted

Yeah I parked up outside some old barn to take pics, just inside the Commerce Park. Take it I could just park up there then? If so I will take my Astra. I'll have the Autoshite sticker on!

Posted

That's it! plenty of bits n bobs around to park. I hope to get there about 11 or so.

The National did two runs to Dunfermline today without issue so fingers crossed she'll do another couple of skelps tomorrow. She's in Western red, white, black and grey livery so hard to miss...

Will be through again tomorrow; today was pretty quiet but with a bit of luck it'll be busier tomorrow. Look forward to seeing the beige BX :)

Parking is free and the field was drying out nicely when we left for an overnight vacation in Falkirk before heading back tomorrow.

And a Rock radio sticker in the back window...??

Never been here before, only 30 odd minutes from home too. I saw the squeaky clean BX pass me in the car park.

A few pics from my phone ( warning, lack of bus content... )

Did anyone else spot the ropey o/s sill repair on the P5...?

This looked like it had just finished work for the weekend - no bad thing. Didn't all these end up in Malta..?

Lovely.

Seen that Guy Invincible before and it looks like it's just rolled off a site. It's fab 8)

Also, nice one on the Drummonds spot! They've got a small collection of beautifully restored wagons that go out to the odd show.

Great show and some new machines this year that I havent seen before. Some non-bus shite there too!

Here are just a few of the pictures I took. I've tried to keep it to stuff that I haven't uploaded in previous years

Seddon Pennine 7

99% certain that this Transit is owned by someone at the travellers site at the back of me - its lovely!

Took a ride to Dunfermline and back on this. The Self-Changing Gear transmission on these MK1 Ailsas is bloody noisy!

'Basil' The Ediburgh Atlantean

IMAG0372.jpg

Some of Basil's window stickers - I remember this campaign!

IMAG0373.jpg

CMS206's National - it sounded ace too!

This looked very circa 1990:

Alex Anderson was driving this, I'm not sure if it still belongs to his pal Billy Dow though. Good on him for turning up as his sawdust yard has just suffered a major fire. :(

Not seen this one before:

This was a new car on the transporter for this year - it was in fairly good nick bodily, if a little tired:

Rusty but GORGEOUS!

To me this looked like a 4 Door RR Camargue. It is a Nissan C???, couldnt read the script on the boot. V8 too.

^Nissan Cima. I think...! Script wasn't the easiest to read.

I've got a metric shitload of pics, including MrCitroen's lovely BX and some other stuff from the car park, and the rest of the industrial estate. Sadly, between the twin evils of Photobucket and 3 Broadband, I'm having a 'mare of a job uploading anything. Watch this space...photos to come, sometime this week.

A couple of buses for sale were mighty tempting, and the rides round the site are always worth a bit of time.

Edit: Have a close up of one particular detail of CMS's Nat...

Had a great day. Good to see such a good variety of bus stuff. Never got as many rides as I would hoped for, but did manage a wee shot in a green (crossville?) National driven sedately & Northern Scottish Leopard driven with a bit more purpose & Autoshites very own National driven how a National should be!!! Anyway thanks to CMS (Andy) for the guided tour of the oily bits & letting me see your airbags. I spotted a single deck Fleetline which looked interesting. Some of the non bus stuff was good too. The GS Pallas was cool, would have that in a minute! I wonder if the cars on that transporter run? Possibly they are on the transporter for a good reason.

Colin does drive with vigour... you are welcome to observe my airbags at any time. Thanks for allowing me to inspect your spider... *sniggers*

Anyway. My pics are slightly less impressive as I barely took any. I had an enjoyable weekend which also resulted in a somewhat embarrassing video on YouTube involving a Montego, which has now replaced Phil's Pony Sonnet Tropicana as the best event of my life.

Friday night; paint was finished at 23.52 and dried too quickly, so some more bits to go over...

That's about all I took over the whole weekend, thankfully some other people did take some pics. Nice to meet CJ and mrcitroen too, and see more AS staff cars.

Broken down breakdown

Never took as many photo's as I should have & I reckon by the look of CJ's snaps I should have explored Lathalmond's nether regions.

Posted

The bit up the hill, and the shed near the main road (where I snapped the Lotus) are ad-hoc 'garages', so there's usually something to see. Just a shame the Pegaso Troner, and the Iveco recovery truck are gone now - I didn't get round to them last year, and blithely assumed they'd still be there  . Also got round the scrap pile before the museum gate, with the Gateway trailer, the utterly fucked Leopard and other stuff.

Andy, please tell me the Rover coop wasn't there on the Sunday, or I might have to go in for a spot of self-flagellation. I spotted it in Broxburn a few months back, whipped around sharpish, and followed it. Maybe if I'd had an appropriate soundtrack, I woouldn't have lost sight of it, and lost it in the mean streets of West Lothian. I've been on the lookout for it ever since.

Maybe I should take my own wah pedal out on these occaisions, just to set the mood right...

Also, the Nissan Cima is the same one you spotted, so I reckon we should christen it Highlander.
