Scottish Motor Show 1985

Great photos. Thanks for posting. Brings back great memories of the much-missed Scottish Motor Show. I went for the first time, as a teenager, in 1969, when it was in the Kelvin Hall. I can still remember the thrill of seeing cars which I had read about in mags but had never seen in real life. Stars of the show for me that year were the Viva GT and the VX 4/90. Went to every one after that right up to the last one in 2003. It was held in the month of November every second year. All shows were in years ending with odd numbers. I was at the 1985 show but I'm pretty sure it was in the Kelvin Hall and the first one in the SECC was in 1987. You sure these pics are from '85?  No matter, they're great anyway.

Jings, holy thread resurrection right enough!

Hi again everyone, I haven't been on here for a wee while but I do lurk fairly frequently to see what's going on.

Definitely 1985, the stickers on the slides say so and I put them there myself all those years ago. From memory the '85 Motor Show was one of the first events to be held at the new SECC, after being held at the Kelvin Hall for donkeys years. Used to go to the KH ones too, from when I was old enough to walk...

Must've been the 1987 one I went to with a schoolmate. Remember trying out a Mini for size (didn't seem to fit me very well, but not sure how far back the seat was), getting a 944 Turbo poster off the Porsche stand, which graced my bedroom wall for some time (tried to find it again recently but couldn't, so bought another one off eBay) and nicking a pedal rubber which had already fallen off a Citroen AX, for no particular reason...

Don't think I went back again until I took my old man there in, I guess 2001. He was quite disappointed the only Skoda there was on a garage door stand.

Brilliant stuff. I first went in 1989 and it's was a two yearly tradition that my dad and I would go to every show after that up until the last in 2003. I loved it.

^^^Wotty said.   There was something special about Motor Show time back then, both ends of the country.

I remember near spamming in my teenage pants seeing a 6R4 for real at a show in Liverpool, must have been around the same time. I yearn on a daily basis for an RS200 to call my own
