Well, the grille said GLT and (not visible in pic) the front wheel is that multi-spoke type. I'll make an inquiry when I'm next up that way.

First I saw this moudering Cavalier estate. Same driveway also housed MkII Astra estate, Omega and something hidden behind the Cavalier.

 

Funny, I was just thinking the other day that it's been years since I last saw a Mk2 Cavalier estate. I know, it's a bit of an odd thought to have, but whaddyagonnado. I could never work out why they didn't put the reversing lights in with the main rear clusters on those - the Chevette estates had integral reversing lights, and they were a much older design.

Wasn't the Cavalier estate created from a load of Holden panels? Maybe the additional light thing is because of the need to get fogs in there too, which Chevette estate wouldn't have had. There is a tider one around Norwich which Jack on Retro-Rides posted up there.

This is Mrs SL's Carina E after I took it up the muddy lane to the scrapyard! We intend keeping it for an awful long time, it's only done 44k from new and does an excellent job as family car, dull as it may be.

Boatyard at Southwold where we visited today has a few odd old tractors, as these places usually do. Cab-less County possibly ex-forestry judging by the crane? These odd conversions interest me, also like Doe Triple-D....

They certainly did offer a Monty 'Advantage'Quite what the advantage is, i'm not sure! :wink: They came in either Maroon or BRG IIRC!

Check my skillz at getting the similar vintage Trooper in the background too! Should anyone be interested it's a diesel, done 135k, needs welding for MoT and is £500 or offers. May just be an old XJ or something way in the distance, I suspect that the yard holds a few things to interest us.

Posted before, now sporting new (later SL-type?) wheels and plates. It runs a non-standard air suspension set-up, so my original assertion this was the original M-B set-up giving it the low stance was wrong!

Think the lump in that Nissan Patrol's the same as in my Rangey......and those 1400S Fezza's are very rare now...is it just me or did the lae Mk2's rot even more readily than the ealy ones??? Bless his bright red brake drums though!! :D

If I didn't know better I'd say the S was made of thinner steel than other Fiestas! I don't find them hugely appealing for some strange reason but if I could find an early C-plater in Paris Blue I'd have it like a shot

The 14k one-owner Golf I saw tucked away in the garage on a survey, and posted very recently. Chap said it was going for auction, it was here with no reserve and in the end went for £1225 to a local Golf enthusiast (as pictured!). Baz, he also has the green one you posted, so chances are it'll be seen around Norwich. My boss was very interested, but it had received a bit more paintwork than was initially obvious and went hihger than he was prepared to pay.

My job is good sometimes, for the last two days I've been surveying a big complex of barns tucked away in Norfolk, in fantastic weather. Apart from the fact I love old farm buildings there's always the chance of finding something.....

'Twas a bit of a beast in its day. 1000cc transverse straight-6, 100-plus bee aitch pee, about 250kg, and skinny '70s tyres - it was a proper man's bike. Second only to the Kawasaki Z1300, which had an even bigger straight-6 with even more power and weight. Both will keep up with modern sportsbikes in a straight line, but neither likes corners too much...

 

Notice you didn't take a pic of my neighbour's Cooper S - presumably because Baz posted it a couple of months ago? He let me have a go in it on the way home - best fun I've had with my clothes on in years. Made me want another Mini. :D

I didn't see what it made either, but there were a couple of things that put me off it - firstly it was a single carb auto and they are dreadfully sluggish; secondly it wasn't tax exempt and being a 2-litre it'd be full-rate tax; and thirdly it had perhaps the worst paintjob I've ever seen on a car in my life - ants could go mountaineering on the orange peel on the roof, and the rest of the body wasn't much better.

 

I'm still cheesed off about that Granada limo - I really wanted that. And the E23. Why couldn't bloody John Sutton announce that he was about to start selling the cars instead of just wading in straight from the automobilia? :evil:

 

I agree those Bristol taillights do look a bit like Mk2 Escort from that angle, but from straight on they look quite different - almost definitely Beta Spyder. Still don't know what the front lights are off though...

The 6 wheel Discovery is a converted Range Rover Airfield Crash Tender Chassis by Carmichael. Possibly the TACR2 version.Good idea to use it and make a vehicle that is at least semi practical!!!!

Wow....Some great pics there....Makes me even more sorry I missed it....Particularly as Frances is on phone duty, so I was doing bugger-all on Sunday anyway! :roll:

 

That Mk1 Golf is lovely isn't it? From the pictures You can see that it's had some paintwork (slight colour mis-match between front wing/door in the second photo), but overall it looks very effective, and worth the money I reckon....Look forward to seeing it about - I know where he works, so I'll keep an eye out! 8)

 

The AMG-shod W107 looks a beauty (is it me/the photo, or do things go slightly wonky at the tail-end of the passenger door/front of the rear wheelarch?)....Much nicer than the blue one anyway (next to the doomed Granada Limo) which has those hideous chrome wheelaches....No doubt covering rust....And pretty drab alloys :(

 

E23 7-series looks remarkably like the one that was parked outside last time S.L (next to the cheap Merc S-class, Jag XJ40, and tatty Mini)....Maybe that's why it seems familiar to You....I thought I posted a pic of it, but I'm buggered if I can find it! :evil:

 

The "Carmichael" Discovery is very intriguing....But definately home made....The use of Disco 1 front wings, mated to Disco 2 bonnet/grille/headlamps certainly makes for some interesting panel gaps doesn't it? :shock: I'm sure it'll look great when it's finished though!

Love the '70s jap superbikes like the CBX, Z1300, and Big GS's with their big power and "hinged in the middle" handling....As You say, PROPER bikes, for REAL men!!!! :lol: Heard a story 'bout the Z1300 once....Apparently, if they were left running whilst on the sidestand for any length of time, the engine would seize due to oil starvation! :shock: Dunno if this is true, or merely myth!

Could be. Zagato did both the Bristol 412 and the Beta Spider (spyder? never sure which is right) so perhaps they had a job lot of rear lights to get rid of :wink:

Sounded to me like it was powered by 3528cc of bent-eight.
