Autojumbles... good way of liquidating junk?

Recommended Posts

I'm spending today sorting out "stuff" in the garage. Pretty much every car I have ever owned I have built up a stock of spares for, meaning my garage is constantly full of junk that is no longer of any use to me. Has anybody here had their own stall on an autojumble? Was it a good way of clearing out unwanted clutter or a total waste of time?

Or find someone who does do autojumbles and flog the lot to them for a bit less and as a bonus not have to deal with elevently million numpties who don't know shit from smoke when it comes to cars.

My experience of autojumbling is that whatever any one wants, is something you haven't got. Also, you'll be one of about four car-part stalls among 77 bike-part stalls. If anyone does by some miracle want something on your stall, they won't want to pay you more than 10% of your price, even if you're only asking a quid.

Good luck!

Sounds a bit of a nightmare then. I had in my mind going somewhere like BL day at Peterborough and selling all my shit/treasure while ogling all the fit cars. i.e basically getting paid to have a good day out.

If you're selling, or even trying to, you won't get time to look at the cars. You might have a chance if you can con, sorry persuade, a mate to go with you and look after the stall while you go for a wander. In fact that's a good idea anyway, it'll be a very VERY long and soul-destroying day on your own. Having said that, BL Day sounds like it might be a good place to sell at. I'm assuming here that a fair bit of your tat does relate to the various BL models?

Yeah, it's mostly Montego/Maestro stuff with a load of Volvo stuff mixed in. BL day was last week though!

Autojumbles did seem to take a knock because of ebay for a while, but I think it's past due for them to make a comeback, I do mean to do one, but keep missing them. Did a local one a while ago but it was dead, maybe 30 stalls and not many more punters, although did come home about a ton richer. I think the ideal way would be going halves on the pitch with someone else who has chod to sell, take turns, price everything and decide a maximum % you'll drop if haggled.

Is there a website listing autojumbles?

Sell them on the VOC forum!

This is a really good idea*

eBay?

I know its a PITA and attracts more mouth breathers and window lickers than the special bus but it can be a good way of off loading stuff you no longer want to a much wider audience. Collection only on big items then people know where they are.

I have sold shed loads on the bay that way and TBH the only thing I really had an issue with was a bloody gas cylinder, sold it 3 times and on each occasion the buyer did not collect it. Or pay for it.

I think I have a few 940/740 headlights and mirrors, thats about it. Ive just sold a load stuff on the VOC forum, so it's not all bad, you just got to sift out the mongs.

Ebay is worth considering, but I have loads of stuff of low value and CBA listing it all.

Package up as a job lot (lots of photos if you can hosted via 3rd party site like photobucket) and wait until free listings day, start at close to what you want as a job lot and see how it goes.

I flogged a garage full of AD016 parts many years ago this way, collection only.

Good result too bloke came all the way from Essex for them.

Mirrors, headlights, taillights, switches, buttons, indicator stalks, that kind of stuff.

Long shot, but do you have any of those plastic bits that go behind the interior door handles? (or the little circles for covering the screws on the window winders - even less likely)

Oh yeah, preferably in brown (no chance - worth an ask though!)
