Is it a revived Isle of Wight ritual custom that I wasn't aware of? Maybe it's something national that "the kids" are into?

Hanging a Smurf underneath the back of your shite hatchback?

Anyone? :?

Fairly common up here in Yorkshire too.

I'm of the age where it would be 'socially appropriate' to know what they are there for. But I don't know cos I spend my time Shiteing instead of having friends.

Them smurfs were the toys in McDonalds happy meals a while back, I know because my son had a few, they are still in his toybox, but it seems all the local chavs also had them tied to their towing eye. Nice. :?

I am sure that can be improved upon. (things are a little slow down here in de Wet Country)

My brother claims to have started this particular trend because after putting two under the back end of Dad's Lexus he started to notice lots of other people putting them under their cars. Apparently, it's used as an invitation to traffic lights grand prix. My brother probably didn't start this trend, it was probably just coincidence that he did it when everyone else had started doing it.

I Imagine they're not a smurf but some annoying troll I want to gas with the exhaust fumes and batter to death on the speed bumps.

Quite a few cars in my neck of the woods have Happy Meal toys hanging from their rear towing hooks, too. I have always wondered why.

I believe this is correct and started in the USA as an indication that you were up for racing for cash at these illegal street race things.

Seems to have made it's way over here and just become a bit of a craze, I have grass and mud hanging from my tow eye wdue to the bin lorry nearly running me off the road this morning

In which case maximum lol-age is due when it's seen dangling off the arse of a 1.9 Diseasel Polo....

You got out-dragged by the bin wagon? Just as well you weren't racing for reg docs!

You are all of course incorrect.

It means that the driver/ passenger of the car is into dogging (depending on which side the Smurf is hung).

Cars will park up and the Smurf will give the dogger the visual clue as to which side of the vehicle to approach - Smurfs hung in the central position mean that either driver or passenger is up for a little action.

Of course there are nuances in the type of hanger too.

Smurfette means that it is a young lady who is the willing smurf party

Brainy Smurf means that the doggee is usually bald ( of the Tefal slap head variety) and likes head smurf

Barber Smurf likes it smurfing well shaved

Clumsy Smurf means the dogee is somewhat inexperienced and should be treated to gentle smurf action

Chef Smurf likes oral Smurf

Pappa Smurf likes three way smurf

Of course only people into flaggelation and gimp suits should approach cars with

one of these hanging from the bumper.

As far as I know it started with twonks over here copying the Jap's and their tendancy to hang the monkey hanger handles off their sub way trains off their rear towing eyes.

See ebay for a probable plethora of copies the said white plastic handle on webbing strap.

These were seen on drift cars. I think to gauge how far lowered?

http://searcht2.aol.co.uk/aol/imageDeta ... nheads.com unbeknown seems that link backs my thinking about gauging droppage!

Proper Jap drift cars ones not wanky body kitted FWD shite.

Now been taken to another level by attaching a MAcDs toy to a bog standard car that would need X hanging on a lanyard to be with striking distance of the deck.

Uk Kids copy Japs, but gets diluted in translation type fail of the first order.

I thought it was another moronic Dub craze.

Well well.

I think they've got involved with all the golf and polo scene cars I've seen down here with with smurfs and the like hanging from the rear, only 2 days ago down at a friends garage business he had a scene special T25 van in with Roland rat dangling from the rear valance

I've got cobwebs hanging off the back of the Granada due to me not using it for three months, does this count?

OK, I've read all that & it's kool, has anyone got a smurf toy they'd be willing to sell?

Who remembers the original rubber Smurf toys? Given away with fuel at National fuel stations around 1978?
