Lancia Beta bits

Helo, jalopy fiends. I am on a heroic quest to find the metal bit that goes the end of the clutch pedal of a 1981 RHD Lancia Beta 2000. If anyone has or knows of a dead Beta lurking somewhere that might be plundered, I would be most grateful.

Hello and welcome! :)

The bit you're referring to - do you mean the hook for the cable? Any chance you still have it? The one on mine (also an '81) sheared a few years ago... I just had it re-welded to better-than-factory spec (not that this is saying much). It's funny... you look at the equivalent weld on the brake pedal, and that's a proper sod-off job, not going to break in any hurry. Clutch pedal is obviously of less importance, so they obviously decided to save 0.0002 lira a car and bodge the welds on those.

Exactly the same happened on my departed 128 3p too...

Thanks, all. Not the hook but the roddy thing that connects to the back of the pedal. My resident bodgemeister, Ren the car, has prepared a weldy fixy bodge of what appears to be incredible bodgepower, so I may be saved. Here is the jalope in question:-

PS: here is the Murena. Note interior made out of 1980s porn underwear.

Welcome! That's some epic chod you're sporting there.

Good luck with the bits hunt, you might be hunting for a while I fear...

Cheers, I have a few other right dodgy yarmouths.

Arse. To replace one poxy little bit off the back of the clutch pedal, you practically have to dismantle the fricken car. What sort of knobber invented such a thing?

Hoorah, finally got the boogah fixed after much faffage. Very fine car. Might have to sell it. Bum.

Feckin' Arse Spanners, the clutch gewgaw has gone again. Kablang, and the clutch pedal is on the floor. Today, I enjoyed the undoubted pleasures of clutch-free motoring, humping the fecking thing along in first and second, and having to switch off and on again at every pause in the traffic, with much kangaroo juice on the restart. At least I was only a mile from Casa Breadbin when the clutch borked out, so I got the fecker home through brute force, ignorance, and the saying of BAD WURDZ. Now I have another 200 year wait to find another replacement bit. Fucking cock cheese. This must be bad Karma for having a sweary at a minicab driver over a parking space earlier in the day. Doesn't mean he's not a twat, mind.

I'm bringing a beta back from the dead and am looking into fabricating the part in question. I run a sodablasting company (www.sodablastscotland.com shameless plug) we have many fabrication companies we work with can you post a specific pic of the bit in question, we might even have a spare one lying around.

Many thanks. It's the top of the pedal assembly, that connects to the cable.

Has the top end of the pedal snapped clean off like a bastard? If so it can probably be welded back on. Have you got a photo of the broken bits?

OT - I fucking hate this Mac keyboard which takes it upon itself to 'correct' any spellings it does not recognise, meaning you have to go back through everything you've typed and fix all the nonsense words it has helpfully included.

Senor Cojones has a good point, it would be a lot easier to stick it back on with a spot of weld . Our fabrication will essentially be an L section with a cut for the wire, it will need to be welded or bolted to the pedal assembly.

It has alreadty been fixed once, and failed. I will try for some photos.

I paid sixty quid to some eBay dude six months ago, for a whole pedal box, plus postage, but he scammed me and vanished. I am usually a fair judge of online honesty, but I got that one wrong.

Paypal everytime!

I got scammed a couple of years back, fortunately I had paid using paypal who are very good at clawing the cash back (well, they pay you and set the hounds on the dodgey geezer). It can be an idea to give folk the benefit of the doubt, a friend of mine got very angry with a buyer who hadnt honoured a meeting to collect a car and pay for it, called his home and immediately started swearing at his wife, only to be told that the chap had been killed in a crash on the way over

Anyway, we'll have a look at this because we need one for the Beta we are restoring as part of a sodablasting marketing excercise, might take a few weeks as we have two off site projects that will be keeping us occupied pretty much full time until then. So won't be quick

I usually paypal, but on this one occasion dripped my guard. Hey ho, it was only sixty quid, and I still trust most people. Autoshite seems to be a place where people are very reliable when it comes to buying and selling cars and stuff.

DROPPED not dripped

WTF happened to the edit button?

When will the Mods ever be seen again? They are like the fricken Entwives, or summat.

Posted

Some people have had the edit button go when their time zone it set wrong. The clocks changing might have thrown it out for you.

Here's how: go to User Control Panel (top left of screen) > Board Preferences, scroll down, set time to UTC+1 for BST. > Submit.

Might work for you...

I've just posted over on betaboys, but thought it might be worth a mini thread hijack here as well ;)

I don't suppose any of you guys have a spare air box for 2000 carb?

Posted

sorry, no spares as such yet but am collecting a box of assorted from an old Lancia fan in a couple of weeks time so will check for you

Yaroo, pedal box obtained, car fixed. I have been giving it the "Italian tune up". Now the boot lock has jammed shut, but, hey, I only had one or two bodies in there.

Posted

Fear not, BV - the aroma will escape through the inevitable holes in the body. Of the car. Decomposition's a two-way street...

Tru dat.

Anyone got a spare Lancia Beta boot lock? I might have to drill this one out, as waiting for the bootlid to rot open might take just a bit too long.
