The strange badge-engineered Corolla is apparently a Chevy Nova! New one on me, that.The Peugeot is an odd one though, didn't know they were sold there! Note the side marker things on the bumpers.

Welcome! I been to New york state a few times, my uncle and his family live on Long Island, sadly there isnt much oportunies for spotting there as It seems to be full of bland modern minivans and suvs. Although my uncle as done the honerable thing and got him self a Subaru legacy. Last time i was there (2006) i spotted this in Harlem

Some top level shite spotting going on here, awesome stuff. The crusty silver toyota reminds me of the one Steve Buscemi's character Seymour drives in 'Ghost World' (i think thats what its called) great film. Actually i think his was a mk1 tercel in fact so nowt like that one.

Hi there,

Have not seen a Citation but I believe a Ford Fairmont(blue rinse club) is not too rare a beast but only seem to appear when I have no camera! What follows is essentially a trip WAY upstate, mainly barges of the us variety with a few commercials(I too have a soft spot for Internationals)

What a great selection! I'm more than happy to keep seeing the US stuff, difficult to pick a favourite. That big Cadillac (?) coupe would suit me well, styling on that era of American stuff is perfect in my eyes, lots of emphasis on elegance and length without the more bulbous shapes that came in the early 70's.

The shape of the light blue lorry cab looks like a Bedford TK especially at the back.

The Mazda 121 was badged as a Ford Festiva over here, that black Jag on white walls was very nice from a few feet back but up close had touched up/tatty paint. The guy wanted $7,500 for it which seemed like a lot to me. It was still on his lot 3 weeks later when I last went by.

I really love old US barges, indeed 'my list of cars to own before I die' includes several land yachts, including a suicide door Lincoln, a Chrysler New Yorker and a Mark III Continental (the brown coupe piloted by 'Frog One' in the French Connection)Good to see so many old cars. No Dodge Darts/Plymouth Valiants (the red saloon in Duel) though, which in California are reputed to be near indestructable. Many of these old RWD cars have engines and transmissions which are so understressed by puttering around at non freeway speeds they reguarly do 250-300k with no problem.New York seems to have higher standards of 'roadworthiness' inspection than other states - when I was in Indiana some of the wrecks I saw used on the road were incredible i.e. 90's japanese stuff with no sills, old 70's yank pick ups with broken rear leaf springs etc.I did see a Sterling hatch in a Connecticut junkyard in 2001!

Me too - and (assuming you're referring to a '66 New Yorker) we seem to have very similar wish lists. Mine would also include a boat-tail Riviera and a '61 Galaxie.

This beautiful Continental was on ebay.com a few months ago, and I believe it made about 13000 USD (sob!). It's almost exactly like the one in French Connection I, and looked to be in timewarp condition - check the door shuts!:

Don't forget that the Yanks see the value in 'lube jobs' (oil changes to you and I) every 3,000 miles or so. My cousin out in Boston has a 'bug eye' Impreza owned from new that has now done over 200k miles, as he has a seriously long commute everyday (something like 200+ miles round trip - why?) and Sub' US are taking a close interest in it. He changes the oil every 3rd week!

Yep - 65 or 66 is my favourite year. That black one is the dog's proverbials! I like the five window sedans they did in those years as well.This was when Chryslers were a proper quality car on a par with Buick, as opposed to the utter cack they are selling today ie Sebring.Keep on seeing dry state cars on US Ebay for about $3-4000 - sooo tempting with the exchange rates at the moment, even with all the extra tax and importing costs they are an excellent buy!Not so keen on the Boat Tail Rivs, prefer the 63-66 original - a seriously beautiful car.
