Super haul there. You did well outside that Exxon station, the Oldsmobile is particularly fine - I'd love it just as it is.Amazing how rotten that door on the red Sentra is, MoT's here wouldn't allow that nowadays. Odd that the arches don't look that bad on it though. As ever, good to see there are still proper American cars to be seen.

F*cking jesus f*cking christ

Not much point locking the doors of that one!

What's the script regarding vehicle testing - is there anything at all, or just on the transfer of ownership?

Yup, three cars on one street, was good enough to get out of the car which is a rare thing! On the MOT side, it varies by state but NY is considered quite strict in that a 'State Inspection' is required both annually and on change of ownership, also from day 1 (none of this MOTs only required after a car is 3 years old stuff). I don't think the test itself though is a thorough as the UK MOT, it concentrates on the presence of ‘safety equipment’ like seatbelts and brakes but you’re right, bloody great holes in doors don’t seem to cause any concern, despite the fact that there’s probably even less metal left underneath the car. I saw the blue mustang (1st car on page one of this thread) again the other day and the headlights don’t point in anything like the right direction yet it was displaying a valid inspection sticker. The NY guide is below and it doesn’t say anything about doors or bumpers held on with string:http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/broch/c-50.htm

Hello all, was a little concerned over the quantity over quality of these spots, the fallon falcon and the brit duo were my favorites, hopefully they'll be of interest.

wow, spectacular spottage!!

These look great from this angle, front 3/4 looks shocking though.

I magine one of these would go down well at 'VW scene action Jam 2008' or some similar get-together. You'd get hammered on the trimz like. A cool car nonetheless.

Yes!!! 'SW8', good postcode.

I wonder what these have in comon with the UK chevette. I remember inspecting a 3-door one in a scrapyard some years ago, looked like the doors were the same at least.

LOL, what a shitbox.

Remarkable!! Some stuff there you wouldn't expect to see "over the water." Most unexpected, surely, is the 100E?

In the Fifties one of the biggest importers of cars into America was Ford itself - mainly it's European range, sold by it's dealerships alongside it's US range. Here's a US Ford Squire brochure on Ebay :)http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1955-English-Ford ... dZViewItem

WOW! a '59 Dodge, one of my all time favourite cars of this era is the '59 Dodge custom Royal Lancer, which is basically a fully loaded 2 door pillarless coupe version of the car pictured 8)8)8)

Do the Yanks not have an MOT type test? I mean, I always thought that films where actors were driving round in some ratty old heap with the back bumper held on by Jell-o and rope were just down to artistic licence, but it cant be, I mean a recent series Californication had David Duchovny driving round in a shagged porshe with no headlamp on the O/S - surely he would have been stopped and ticketed? Well he bloody well would have in this country - mind you then again perhaps not unless he went 0.00000006 MPH over the posted speed limit then the enitre establishment would be down on him like a ton of rectangular building things and he would be sent to Broadmoor where his bottom would probably resemble the Irwell tunnel after a few days inside and he would be forced to become Mr Big's bitch just to survive - and when he eventually did get released on bail he would suffer sleepless nights, flashbacks and develop a pathalogical tendancy to steal baked beans from Tesco.

Sorry - went a bit Raymanboy then.

Funny thing is New York is meant to have fairly strict vehicle inspection laws. In Indiana last year I saw some right horrors that would make that red Nissan Sentra with holes in the doors look pristine .. a 1994 Honda Civic with no rear arches (really) and very little of the rear sill left comes to mind. I think it all stems from the fact that all American cars were once built body on frame, so panelwork rust didn't matter from a structural point of view. Some of the 'before' vehicles on 'Pimp my Ride USA' give an indication of the shocking condition of some US shite .. smashed headlights, major accident damage, sun destroyed interiors, non functioning dials or indicators, missing windows/sunroofs/body panels etc.

Or even worse than that.... Wikipedia sez:

On only three occasions  all season finales  did the show not "pimp" the original automobile. In the first instance, the car to be pimped was actually two halves of Ford Escorts welded together to make one car, a "cut and shut" job, and was considered unsafe.

Yep indeedy!

Spot the join halfway up the A-pillar - welds primered over and not even ground down!!

Shame that the pimpers weren't man enough to reshell the Escy though, they took the bedwetters' option and got the guy some Scion shitheap instead.
