Thes are great Rootes!

I had to chuckle at the 'Bitter Chocolate' name for the leather seat colour on the Granada Chasseur. I'm pretty sure the chocolate would be pretty displeased at being used to colour leather.

LOVE the Rover 800 advert. It will be saved for future reference - Actually that reminds me, a now former leader of Birmingham City council has a K-reg Rover Sterling like the one in the advert. Though its bit battered, he told me he is looking to restore the car soon. His wife drives a Rover 200 'R8' coupe, apparently her brother used to be a test driver at Rover.

Is that really Margret Thatcher driving in the learner Allegro?

That Fiat advert near the ended can't be real, surely?!

No - slipped it in as a tester

It's not, I remember it as a spoof from a Not The Nine O'Clock News annual or something. The real Fiat Strada launch campaign had the strapline 'Handbuilt by robots'.

Ah, beat me to it! See, we were paying attention

Thanks for posting these, I remember a few of them from the time... am officially old...

These are great. Thanks again John!

I spent a bit of time trying to find out about Weldall based in Stourbridge. Seems they closed down some time ago (Theres a few obituarys for former workers) The Old Warf road indutrial estate is looking a bit sorry for itself too, some disused buildings including a newer building that used be a Steelworks place.

Shame but no surprise really.

Brings back great memories of my 1980 1.6GL Goldcrest, unfortunately I modified it a little with a MKII Mexico front and rear spoilers, single box Mexico exhaust (because really I wanted a MKII Mexico).

Soon you will be able to buy a small 5 door family hatch for the same prices as that Yugo Sana as well!

Some fun with the inflation calculator:

The £99 respray. In today's money that'd be about £260. I'm not completely sure I'd let anyone loose with a spray gun for that.

The £4,997 Skoda Favourit comes in at £8,860 - a Sandero is a better bargain nowadays. That Polski Fiat is slightly cheaper at £7,750.

Yeah. The pony was a complete omg car. I remember as a nipper I was in Fine-Fare in Bearsden with my mum and they had one sitting there and a greasy salesman desperate to sell one to her. My mum just laughed, and the guy said everybody will be driving one of these.
