Cavcraft Posted June 1, 2012 Author Posted June 1, 2012 Cheers Triggly! Did an internet search this morning and found a Triumph specialist I didn't know about who's only about 8 miles away. Mailed him about an exhaust and he's got a couple in so just waiting for a price. I need to get driving it really and make a wish list of stuff to do so hopefully will have insurance sorted today. My missus hasn't seen it yet and my daughter has christened it the Batmobile!

My new mate at the Triumph specialist says 'about £80' for a second hand full exhaust system, though that might have to wait for me to have my left bollocked removed from it's soon to be Siamese twinned-erly position next to my right hand lung after the bread knife sees our bank balance.

Right, just been for my maident drive in it to pick my lad up. First impressions? O-M-F-G! What a laugh this thing is to drive! Open the door and it smells like absolutely every single BL car of that era, that strange sort of musty/plasticky/uniqure aroma they always seem to have.Fired up first turn, wee bit of choke to steady it away and the warmer the car got the better it went. By the time I was approaching my lad's works I'd started nailing it a bit and it doesn't half pick up in top gear. 40-60 seemed to fly by and it's quite throttle responsive too. On the way home we gave it some guns and nailing it round the roundabout up the road from me was just almost indescribably(sp) fun: it held it's line very well until I gave it even more welly, then a bit of tyre squeel and it's flying off in the direction I pointed it at, but still holding the road well. A bloke on a bike smiled and waved, other people were grinning at us and my lad absolutely loves it to bits. He's now asked me to get a quote for him to insure it and I can have his Corsa as a swap!

The carbs have been stripped and cleaned - could do with some new springs and needles - Rimmer Bros ftw. Ps - have set timing/points (nearly) so avoid changing it like the plague, unless you really really really like burnt arms. Damn, I miss the old tub already.

First job will sorting the driver's window I think, mistakenly opened it before and now had to a proper BL repair and hold it back up with cardboard!Think I'll swap the sun visors over too as the driver's one drops, but the exhaust note is actually MEGA so not too arsed about replacing it for now. These are not complaints by the way mate, just mental observations of where to start 'doing things' to it!I assume the winder mech has stripped a few teeth by the way so will have a look and perhaps try and score a second hand one somewhere.

Always wanted a Die-shat-su (Daihatsu) Applause in the two tone maroon and cream as my dad briefly had one as a company car. I was a biker then and thought the suspension was great in the Applause as you could almost get your knee down in corners
The Reverend Bluejeans Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 They're a smashing old thing - that one is Russtet brown is it not? They drive well enough with nice steering and a good ride, plus the old 2.0 engine is as torquey as buggery. An epic dashboard as well. Of all the TR's, money no object, a 7 would get my ££££ - time has been very kind to these. Would have to be Inca yellow or Java green though.
