Xantia V6 in a true Autoshite colour anyone?

Thought this was too good not to share.

Posted on the French Car Forum. If I hadn't have just bought the Laguna, it would already be sitting here

Beautiful (!) shade of purpley ming, with fogey cream interior and the pensioner like bumper scuffs to complete the look. 96k miles, tax until July, MOT until Jan '13. " Electrics all working except headlamp washers also airbag warning flashes intermittently. New rear silencer , Legal tyres (1 almost new). Downside : Auto snatches between 1st and 2nd but only if driven hard, all other gears are OK, we have lived with this for the last 10 years. Car also has paint scuffs on bumpers and lower doors and a dent to n/s Sill."

I think this could be a great communal Autoshite pass around. I'd be more than happy to give it permanent residence after the tax runs out if somebody wants to smoke around in it til then. That's a promise.

Located in Bath.

Price : "as a guide I would be looking for sufficient to cover the new rear box + 3 months tax + scrap value. I would prefer the car went to someone who would appreciate it rather than sell to a scrap yard."

I think anyone interested would need to be quick!

Colour is horrible.

Not as thirsty as an Activa though.

Xantia auto boxes? Do a search for those words on FCF. 8)

300 quid.

Do it Ian!

The colour is inoffensive enough, and I quite fancy a fast Xantia one day. I reckon my wife might even like this one (so long as I don't tell her how big the engine is. It's more than twice my BX's cc!)

Cheap as chips, this one.

Other half is not convinced. I shouldn't have said 'what could possibly go wrong?' I've driven one of these and they are awesome. In fact, the noise is so good that I'd rate it as level-pegging with the Alfa 164 V6 I owned. Plus you get hydro suspension. Apparently, they can top 30mpg if you're easy on the throttle. Mwaaah!

Posted

Funny you should mention the noise. A friend of mine has driven a Xantia V6 and has said the noise has been far better than my Laguna and C5 V6s. Definitely a car on my list!

I like these as well, shame they are all autos like. Still, if you were a proper mental case you could fit a manual box out of a 406. 300 Dirham sounds like a SUPA BARG

Looks fantastic and would tick all the boxes for me, minus the fact its not lpg. Mind you, it wouldnt be £300 either, then. Looks like a bargain though, for sure.

Exactly what I was thinking. That or a V6 Activa.

Urr sorry guys. I dunno if it IS 300 quid - that was just me putting my valuation on it....

What is the asking price R9UKE?? Or is the seller leaving it as an ambiguous "back box, remaining tax + scrap value"?

He's going for the ambiguous option... I doubt he'd chase you away with your £350 cash though. None of the mentioned items top that figure by my calculations.

The V6 Activa was never sold here unfortunately, that would have been an IMMENSE car. I don't understand why Peugeot gave the 406 a manual box but decided the Xantia V6 would be slush box only.

I bought my Activa off a guy in Belfast. He got it from a guy in England who had a green V6 Activa as well. The conversion was done by BL Autos if I recall...

Here's the thread: http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... hp?t=33531 The red one's mine.

Probably because Citroens are almost exclusively driven by pensioners in France. Especially the Xantia. PSA must have thought anyone with "sporting" ambitions would go straight for the 406.

p.s: re the £300: my bad, must have misread !

Nice one Ross, had no idea about these.

The seller has named his price. £300 :P

Posted

the V6 would have the ZF gearbox like my 607 which is a lot tougher than the Siemens gearbox fitted to the smaller engined versions

Posted

At £300, the snitch wouldn't bother me. He says it's only when driven hard, which I rarely do with a V6 - it's all about the silent effortlessness :)

Even complete self destruction at some point wouldn't be the end of the world as the cream leather Xantia interiors are pretty sought after.

As usual though it's on the mainland. I already have one of my cars waiting to cross the water and I can't justify another :x

Posted

Worth a punt at £300 - if it goes Pete Tong you can sell the leather and weigh it in.

It should go like a bastard with that lump stuffed under the bonnet.

Arrgh! I'd have that like a shot, but I've no chance of getting to it for a couple of weeks. :'-(

Going to look at,& hopefully pick this up tomorrow :D

Did you? (apols if I've missed this announcement elsewhere)

These are seriously nice, scary in the way if you drop a spanner in the engine bay it never hits the pavement, but nice all the same.

My old Dad would love it but I can't get him out of his '98 Xantia 1.9TD special edition. They both survived being blown up by Buncefield back in 2005 and he won't part with it. The old man worked 500 yards from the explosion and had gone off shift at 6am he was just getting into the Xant when the explosion happened and it knocked him flying. He managed to get into the car and get the hell out of there. A giffer and his chariot cannot be parted.

Good on ya. Your first challenge is to change the spark plugs - ALL of them!
