I think commercial vehicles are exempt from a lot of safety standards.

And yet the Health and Safety principles of "as far a reasonably possible" would suggest that an employer, should do a risk assessment of any new purchase and ask if there are alternatives that are safer.

The reason airbags were eventually mandated in the USA was that safety campaigners managed to get the requirement added to all new purchase of federal vehicles, and then a couple of years later had proof of much lower deaths of government employees than in the general population, so we're able to move onto making it mandatory on all vehicles

I think employers might do that if they have a large enough fleet of vehicles and so a lot of drivers. I suppose adding limiters/on-the-job GPS trackers will also monitor (and limit) the drivers' speeds to keep themselves and other road users safe, but to also make sure they don't cause a dangerous occurrance (because RIDDOR).

However, as I can't find any material regarding commercial vehicles, I believe it'll be down to the employer to use their own initiative when shopping around.

This may, of course, be wrong (and that would annoy me as I'm currently spending weeks learning about H&S regulation and literature as part of my apprenticeship training. My mind is numb).

They’ve started fitting airbags to heavy Merc tractor units now, no idea why. You hit the back of another truck at 56 in one of them and an airbag ain’t gonna help!

I'm still looking out for these DFSK shitheaps, they seem to be getting fewer and further between now but here's one I don't think I'd seen around before. Anybody fancy this 10k mile example?

There's a bunch of these at a local firm who build snack wagons. I think covid really did a number on them as he has a few for sale 'as is' for around a grand each.

Hey DFSK spotters, how about this one for something a bit unusual.  World's smallest cherry picker?

Ten years old but with a few months mileage on it. Miniscule market for it though.

It's bigger than a Hijet, which also had lifts installed. One hero had lights & gear for sewer surveys - yes, it drove through them
