Polo is sold - behold the new (as well as the TR7) daily !

So, the checklist -

Old engine technology (very...)

Old chassis technology.

Cassette player with non-readable detachable screen.

Unloved.

Somewhat impracticable.

Bought with a running issue from a dodgy bloke on some godawful estate whose wife refused to drive it.

Leather.

A previous giffer owner who used it as a shopping car.

Same owner who had the underside sprayed in oil every service.

Yep, sold mate. When can I collect it.

Did you don your flame proof pants before posting? :D

Is it the 2.4 and what is the running problem? Our's doesn't like going past 4,000 revs when being driven along but some arsing about with the air filter and cleaning the plugs helped no end.

Nice. I'd lose the clothes horse on the front though. I'd still like to try one of these. I've spent a fair bit of time in a late one (the very last one built in fact, so pretty late!). Felt a bit too much like your grannie trying to squeeze into a tart's frock. I reckon these earlier ones are a bit more honest about their agriculturalness.

I like it. :)

A few of my pals in Vauxhall Clubs I sometimes attend have had these and actually used them off road in 'Mud Clubs' quite effectively.

I predict another 9-page VAUXHOLE H8TIN thread now though, we havent had one for a few weeks

Looks OK, the sort of car that will still be around in another 20 years

Ha ! I love/loathe GM in equal measures, spent 8 odd years at VX so let the flamers flame :-)

The 2.4 was never a revver - plod along at tickover mind.

Nope - she is the flower of early 70's Opel n/a diesel with a Turbo bolted on. Win, and win.

Running problem is mostly a split intercooler to turbo pipe, and about 2 pints of oil in said intercooler. 007 syle smokescreen initially. Clearing now, but only 75k on clock, looks and feels like it.

The rest will inevitably be a new fuel filter with the extra seal fitted in error, and the vac switch on boost (lol) regulator.

The A type are imho, the 'best' of them - no pretensions about what it is/for.

She's even got a pair of Michelins on her. Blimey.

Whoops - forgot the piece de resistance...

The 2.3 diesel?

That must be a right old laugh, I had a 179,000 mile ex-taxi Carlton 2.3 diesel once that was comically slow and agriculutral, God alone knows what they're like in a Frontera!

Anyhow top buying skills mate!

I believe you already know the answer to that...:-) despite the random speeling*

*Yes, I know. It's a 'joke'

Brill, these seem to endure don't they. Guy 2 up the street from my folks has one and it's also an L reg. It's funny, in the first ever JD power survey back in 1994 these came out at the bottom (bad when you consider the Lada Riva was still available - not that there's anything wrong with that!) but compared to all the high scoring Tyotas and Nissans back then just how many remain compared with Fronteras is pretty illustrative. Ditto on the RAV 4 thingy.

On this site there are people that fap themselves into a stupor over strange old French things and the very worst of Austin Rover, and others taketh not ye piss, yet some folks think it's OK to publicly lambast Vauxhall as a brand? Bollocks to that.

I for one have nothing against any Vauxhall without a bloody V grille, and I genuinely like Cavaliers (all eras) and Calibras.

I've had loads of vauxhalls.. Loved my mk2 and 3 cavaliers in particular, had a mk2 Astra, a couple of calibras, 2 victors and a cresta... BUT I have to say anything post 95 I've had from them has been absolute crap. My vectra SRI 140 took out its cylinder head, cost a fortune to repair then went on fire and disappeared in a sea of flames thanks to wiring issues .. My corsa constantly had sensor issues that put the managent light on ,and my mates late omega refused to start on a regular basis. So now I won't touch their modern stuff with a barge pole. Shame really.. I went into vectra ownership with an open mind.

If anyone's realising they have a Frontera shaped hole on their drive and want a piece of the action feel free to pm me!!!

Red: have you tried FOG yet? Very good website.

Yep - am a member on there for a while now Cav. Top people.

What you selling?

And ref the post 'V' grill stuff - a lot of the decent mechanics were leaving/retiring then. Makes a huge difference to the perceived quality of any product, especially from a repeat repair standpoint. Still hear a lot of 'the machine says its a XX sensor' bollocks....no, the machine says there is a reported fault linked to that XX sensor. Now you have to use 'skill' and 'knowledge' to effect a repair. Sorry, I digress...but it pains me.

My lad's 2.4 is on there for sale!

Posted

Aaaaah. That 2.4. Bugger. If I'd have known....an off road toy would be ace, the 2.3 really is too nice to mod. AS discount !

Posted

At Cavette motors we pride ourselves on discounts!

How about part-exchanges? :-)

So, slightly back OT - drives ok, steering / brakes poorly or not adjusted (as usual). Adjust alt belt (as usual).. Oils being checked/changed tomorrow. Try and lash-up a intercooler hose that isn't colander-link. Bleed brakes/clutch. Check for split bulkhead. Fix o/s/f headlamp. Oh, and 'work'.....bloody students.

The Frontera was given a awful reputation for being basically a pile of automotive crap.Well,I have never spoken to a Frontera owner who had problems,or didn't like the car - very under rated, and a very sensible choice, although I do prefer the later MK2 dashboard

Posted

Ooooh no, Fisher-Price buttons are win. :-)

Got to love em - see how many survive for a start.

The Isuzu influence
