Thanks minimad.. i could do with a Cabrio to break, although I'm not sure if I'd have the heart! If this doesn't sell I may have a think, at least someone else has the oppertunity to save it at the min. I'm certain that car was on last year with the same engine trouble.. And regards the missing pics I did some housekeeping on Facebook forgetting this thread was linked to it :/

You should definately buy that! But I don't have a spare engine. I'm sure that the one in it could be repaired. Would love to have a go at an engine rebuild on one.. Got the MG to do next year I do guess

RE: Talbot Samba Cabriolet

Bottom arms fitted, anti roll bar back on, old oil and coolant and filter off and out, new oil and coolant and filter in, new sump plug washer.. cooling system bled, car warmed to half temp, fan cuts in. Job done I think.

MOT next....

The insurance ran out on the FSO yesterday so I have switched to using this:

It is shame to put the miles on it really, the MOTs from '92 to '08 show around 350 miles per year in it's previous life in Bristol. By October 2008 it had only covered 13,970 miles!

Thanks :) Well I've managed to get 17MPG out of my last tank of petrol, couple that with the poor running and 'binding brake' feel I figured something was up. Previously I checked that the wheels spun free and they did, however the other night the off side front wheel was too hot to touch. Yesterday I removed the caliper and tried to push the piston in with a G clamp and failed. With the bleed screw open however the piston could be pushed back so next I undid the flexi hose where it joins to the metal pipe and tried to push the piston in and it wouldn't have it. So I've ordered a new flexi and it should be here Monday so afterwards the thing should go back upto 50MPG.

Yes, I thought it'd be summert like that, Ed!

I forgot to ask you the other day, what are the plans for the next weeks/months for the cabriolet? I'm having thoughts...

Just wondering if it might be needing re-homing any time soon. I have a spare classic policy, with only the Rowvah on the road now.

Just thinking aloud really...

You're welcome to borrow it, or the Polonez if you wanted to. The FSO has a fresh MOT and TAX until the end of March and the Cabriolet has neither but I'm kinda really looking forward to using it after it was in bits most of last year.

That's a kind offer Ed, but not what I was digging for - just wondered if it might come on the market any time soon. I'll keep the offer of a borrow in mind though...

The Samba Style has been treat to some new brake pads and the near side flexi has been replaced as it transpired that was also past its best. Also the carburettor has been set up a bit better, it was running too lean. Big thanks to Cyanide Steve for doing this work for me.

Check check the mothafrokkin brake pads, they basically crumbled in my hands.

It still seems to be using way too much petrol, it should get 300 miles from a full tank, it's currently getting about 200. And I have to give in to the fact that the car is a bit highly strung, I've never know a Samba with such a bloody attitude problem. All I can deduce is that it must have had an easy life, I'm sure I'll wear it in though.

In summary: the brakes aint stickin no mo

Oh wow thank you, I'm glad you found it interesting!

Sometime in the future I may be able to provide an update on my old Samba S, the chap I sold it to got in touch and said it's all finished and promised me some pictures. I'll have to ask if it is okay to include them here though, but he has read the thread :D

One day I will find another, though not on these shores.

Those are mad alloys on the grey cabrio - looks like the kind of wheels I was after when I had an AX

"Parts only" - how sad, it's on an X registration too, you can tell its an early one by the rather strange (for a Samba) looking air filter housing. I don't know of any others on an X. Would have been a fantastic addition to the "to restore" list :(

Found another Samba S for sale..

This one I think would be complicated to return to original form:

talbot-samba-s_0.jpg

talbot-samba-s.jpg

600 euros.

It would take more investigation to confirm it is what the advert says... But it has the tell tale sill extensions, spoiler and side mouldings.

talbot-samba-s_3.jpg

Silver originally... promising. Advert is 3 years old though :(
