Welcome along Steve, got any pictures of your old cars you'd like to share?

Thank you. I've got loads of pics. I'll have to scan them and put some on here.

Uh-oh, did I see It Vibrates Everything Comes Off in your signature? :D

Steve welcome! And it would be great to see some pics of your old FSOs :) I'll be honest, I cheated a bit in that my car was brought over from Poland in 2010 or thereabouts so isnt a UK car, there just arn't any left! That said Ritchie from here rescued a scrapped UK car and is in the process of importing all the parts to rebuild. And Benno has a Caro and a Caro Truck!

I've now joined the Facebook group for these cars, in which one will find many familiar faces from here... :D and we've been having some talk about parts from this car...

I said I'd post up some pics tonight, so here they are.

As you can see, there's a lot of work in it... But stripping is a different story and I've opened the conversation with Andreas. He's willing, in principle, to sell parts.

Almost reminds me of this one Eddy although not quite!

The Cyprus one needs a good hoover, and some T-cut. And maybe a boot lid :) Benno even that one in your pic has parts I could use!

Polonez ownership could have been a remote possibility in 1997 when I was looking for my second car. However I vaguely recall the insurance groupings being very high for them. Probably on account of spare parts prices and shipping them from Poland as opposed to how desirable they are to criminals.

A used car dealer near me on an 'Arfur Daley' type lot had an F reg Polonez Prima in white with Weller wheels (all the Ws). Thing is - he wanted £1,995 for it at the time. An Eastern Bloc car on for the same price as a decent Maestro back then. Knowing at the time how FSOs depreciate, I wasn't prepared to p!ss my money away that rapidly.

At around the same time, on a drunken student night out sitting outside a pub guzzling lager I saw a young guy in the car park getting into a Polonez Prima with 2 girls and another chap. What a winner!

I took the FSO to a 'cruise' at Scarbrough last night. Wondered if it was someone from here who shouted Talbot Samba at me. Too big a coincidence it being a bad guess at what my FSO was! Was as okay a night as these things could ever be. Saw all 3 MK3 Escort 'fast' versions which made me quite happy :) and just as we were leaving a Citroen XM with a quad headlamp conversion FTW! Longest treck out in the FSO over 100mile and cost over £30 in petrol. It's worse than the bloody Monza! Gonna have to start saving for Cholmondery and Shitefest

It's looking bloody lovely!

I'm trying to get a picture of it next to the Lamborghini Raventon that I keep seeing, my mate works for the guy now and again. Fingers crossed on that one! He must have a sense of humor his number plate reads Y ME

Thanks Alpus :) not sure who owns that one, mine wont be on HML.co.uk until next year

Looking good there! 8) Extra cool points for being able to rest your left elbow while driving...

I was driving the '04 Audi A4 you can just see in front of my FSO yesterday, that has a nice armrest for left arm. It is in another world that car, total antithesis to mine. I drive it now and again and always feel really good in it. And I drove a '09 Fiesta Zetec S too (strange day for me yesterday). I really dont like the feel of modern cars it is alien to me. Sure I'd get used to it tho. The Audi is a 2.5 TD Quattro

I keep getting told to 'buy one decent car' or 'stop messing around with scrap' haha, I daresay I could chop all mine in and buy the Audi, but tyres cost roughly 1 shite car to replace, he keeps having trouble with diesel filters and now an egr valve - what the heck that is i dont know but it sounds expensive!

Yeah, all my (married-into) family give me the same grief. They go and spunk a bucket of money on a new car and think they've got it right. I buy an old shed for buttons and occasionally a classic that isn't depreciating, and I get the earache. Families....

Can't blame me for wanting an orange one with a spoiler car you?

See this one, I was looking at buying when it was on eBay in around 2005 or 6.

Instead I bought this:

...and never managed to drive it. As it happens had I have bought the FSO at 18 I would probably have broken it, so it's definitely for the best I never!

That looks a right nice Polonez actually, I would have liked that!

(Edit) Someone's serious there, I see a Wartburg behind it and a Skoda 110 reflected... Nice!

Are they really as horrible to drive as they look?

It's ok, I understand. I have a TR7, which I try to convince myself is a fun and responsive sports car.

Shock horror :o

Went to pick my mate up tonight from town, pulled into a bus stop and turned the car off waiting for him to finish his pint. After a minute or two I thought I'd park across the road. No ignition. No anything. So I waggled the usual suspect block connector, I've the steering cowl off for easy access until I fix this. Na. Wasn't having it still no ignition, radio or anything.

So I opened the bonnet and checked the battery, checked the earth and then every wire I could see coming off the battery. As soon as I touched a wire leading to the alternator of all places my radio blasted into life :D

Still no ignition - - but that took a simple waggle of the usual suspect block connector by the steering column.

Mate comes out the pub none the wiser. Winner

Skoda fan you have a Caro? :!:

Oh yeah, for one joyous moment I forgot lol :)

Re the driving experience I would say based on the heaps I've owned in the past it's somewhere between Lada Riva and Victor FE, ie heavy and ponderous. Having said that, my last Caro was totally reliable. Time will tell with this one.

I can't comment on the TR7 experience, but I do try to convince myself that the MGB is a thrusting, dynamic, fun machine....actually the experience is more like the "Sherpa soft-top" it has been insultingly referred to on here lol.
