The Patrick Collection

I've just been reading this feature from 1989 about the Patrick collection, I have heard of it before having seen cars for sale on ebay as being "Ex-Patrick Collection" and wondering what it was.

I was interested if anyone has ever been and what was it like?, Doing a bit of googling and now it seems the place is pretty much redundant, only being open to car clubs on a pre-booked basis which is a shame as they once seemed to be the autoshitters dream museum, according to the feature below they had Tagoras, Renault 5's, the last ever Morris Ital even Skoda Rapids and Talbot Alpines!

Hmmmm...interesting. I'm fairly sure it doesn't exist anymore.

My 2.6 Tagora is the very one that they had. They sold it at auction in 2002 I think, where it was bought by the old boy I purchased it from. He had had a Tagora from new that had been written off and asked his son to find another. Even in 2002 they were like rocking horse shit, so the Patrick Collection one was the obvious solution. It had 2000 miles when he bought it and 32000 when I got it from him.

It was rusty on two wheel arches and had the odd scrape here and there. I ended up virtually re-painting the whole car bar the roof. The interior though was mint.

Its awaiting a new exhaust at the moment. It has to be specially made ( I got a quote of £700) as you can't buy Tagora ones off the shelf as it were. I'd love to get it back on the road this year, but don't know if it will actually happen. :(

Assuming it was kept for its first 20 years in the manner that the magazine pictures suggest, it doesn't say much for the original quality that it needed completely repainting!

Anyone know what happend to the final Ital? Still in existence?

I went there when I was about 10 or 11 I think. Can't remember much about it. I've also got the book "101 Great Marques" which features a LOT of the Patrick Collection cars, including a yellow and black 2CV Charleston that had a profound effect on a young me...

I did once see the RS200 and Ferrari 288GTO that were in the collection being 'exercised' on the A435 Wythall bypass!

This very Ferrari it seems.

Frankly, I'm surprised I didn't just explode on the spot. I don't often get excited about Ferraris, but the 288GTO is just perfect. The chances of seeing one on the road are remarkably slim!

I think it made it's way to the Oxford Bus museum and joined in their Morris exhibit... I'll do some digging.

I've got that too, there are some really good pictures of some of the 80s cars they put away. I went there in about 1991 I think. They had that orange Allegro rally car on display (the one the Vanguards model is based on) and that was the star exhibit for me at the time!

This Zandra Rhodes R5 that used to be part of it was at the NEC last year:

I'm told my 117 spent some considerable time there.

Nowt to prove it though -as the previous owner decided he needed to keep all the paperwork. Berk.

Excelsior!

I went in probably about 1989 / 90 with Fatha_Lobsta. It was great and something a young an impressionable me enjoyed very much. I've got a couple of crappy photos somewhere but that second picture is pretty much how I remember it.

Theres someone on here who was involved with it in its latter stages IIRC. Think its virtually all gone now though which is a great pity. If they'd carried on and kept collecting contemporary cars it would have been an absolutely incredible place to visit now.
