Shite in Miniature II

I wasn't really looking for kits, I have enough of a backlog.  I was much more interested in diecasts, but there wasn't much in 1/18, certainly nothing to interest me (older US stuff) and bugger-all in 1/43.  Couldn't even find a Hot Wheels MR2 and I even looked in ToysRUs!  Most disappointing.

I found some in the boot of a Chrysler Newport. In London, of all places.

A once in a lifetime opportunity doesn't manifest a rule.

Sadly neither a Newport, nor its boot filled with precious plastic, has made an appearance in my life lately,

and I consider myself somewhat of an authority when it comes to obtaining colourful styrene in colourful boxes.

Ive been going to my local Swapmeet since 1988 and there's a guy who sells nothing but model kits. He was at a bus show today and had 3 AMT models still in their cellophane, one was an Olds Tornado. You should go.

Been to a toyfair at Needham Market today, and added to my Vanguards fleet, been after an SD1 for ages, and the blue Anglebox is the first ever Vanguards issue

Bear in mind that the 2 Angleboxes were a fiver each, the 309 was a tenner, the Capri is a fresh release, and the SD1 goes for around £20+, I was happy with the prices, entry to the fair was only £1.50 as well, and it was a 10 min drive away...

Where is "local"?

Fiver for the Anglias would be my ceiling, it's nearly impossible to get anything for that at the fairs I can get to, and you got a bargain on admission too.  Well played there.  I guess it's the ole Postcode Lottery at work again.

The toyfair is run by the local model railway club, and did seem well patronised, did seem heavily biased towards railway, but there was a stall with quite a few crates and trays of unboxed stuff at sensible money.

Bloody hell!  The nearest one to me, which is 150 mile round trip, charges 3.50 to get in and once you've done that, you have to fight through the crowds just to get a look at all the overpriced stock, some of which might be of interest.  I went last December and vowed not to do it again.

I stopped going every month and by 2007 I had ceased attending entirely due to rip off prices. I used eBay right up until 2013 when a fellow collector together with my renting my own table there for a few months to release some of my collection, renewed my interest in model cars and I started buying again. The same traders were still there and prices had tumbled. It's not that busy either so it's a buyers market in there right now.

I have that RV8 as well, its about 1/38 scale and has a pull back motor, from the Shell Collection made by Maisto Mine's in a scruffy box, and might be OMFG4SAYUL for not many pennies.

Got this in the post this morning, so immediately  took it to bits to misery it up, after the plod Mk2 project I got went terribly wrong, and that now became a donor. I'm now thinking about hunting down a light blue Mk2 pop to up spec that.

Ghia Mk2 Scrote by Vanguards, now sporting interior, wheels, grille and painted silver bumpers. How utterly miserable now LOL

And now another project Escort MK2 diecast, a Trofeu this time, was left hand drive, now has a dash from a Vanguards Mk2, wipers swapped over to the correct side, wheels from a Trofeu 'GL' Escort, non 'Custom' Escort RS2000 now complete. :)

Fella you should try baseifying a 1/18 Escort. Lots of people on the 1/18 Facebook pages modify them so parts would be plentiful. If you decide to do a MK3, I have all the necessary parts. 😉
