Shite in Miniature II

I've got the bottom 2 but not the top. Love the 1/36 Corgi Mini, they got it spot on in 1989 when the upgraded the front fascia.

In addition to the above and 2 sportpack coopers I have:

30, sky, flame, racing, rose, neon and city.

Yo!

That 1:18 Rover P6 (and XJ40, W114 Lang etc) that we thought was Matrix isn't Matrix it seems.  Instead its being marketed under the name of Cult Scale Models. RRP is around the £125 mark but obviously Autoshite discount is available.  No delivery date just yet but I'll pop some details online later and let y'all have the link in a bit. K THX BAI.

ECW bodied Bristol VR in Hedingham livery, just like the ones on my school bus route. In fact, this very bus. Astonishingly EFE also do KJD58P, a Daimler Fleetline that I rode on year after year.

Must not keep collecting buses and coaches of North Essex operators otherwise there will be trouble.

I'm thinking of thinning my fleet down again to help fund the tarting up of my white beast of Czech-ness

I'm all ears FM..... :)

The EFE VR is a cracker, always has been. I've got 3. EFE produce simple solid models with near perfect proportions on ther castings. The National, Y type, DMS and the latest Routemaster are good examples. At 35 quid apiece though, I wont be buying any more. I recall when they were 9.99 which left a fiver of my weekly wage for the publican.

Are they resin blobs, or proper stuff?

They are resin. Not expected until May / June so theres time to save up :)

I'll drop you a message about them tomorrow about them.

Also. I wish they'd chosen a better name. I've typed Cult Scale Models onto various things today and I'm terrified of getting it wrong...

Not suitable if you're under 3 years old..  Conrad model / VAG box , tiny chip on roof , 2 owners ,low mileage LHD . 1/43rd

I paid 15 quid + post 10 years ago, you can have it for the same if you want it .. but its not minichamps quality .Made in W.Germany makes it pre 1990 ,but its a bit eastern bloc quality .Nice though

Do they exclusively make diecasts of big, obnoxious barges with GAZ 262728291 number plates, chrome arches which come badly parked on their plinths?

I used to build a lot of 1/24 stuff, but I haven't really bothered for about ten years. It was mainly trucks and some cars and vans...

But, that H van, Renault 4 van, Grey Fergie, Sunny and 2CV pick ups have really got me interested again. I'll certainly make the effort to buy them, whether I get round to building them is another thing...

Interesting to see the seventies AMT gravel trailer back again. It was a nice kit, it came with a double axle dolly so you could create a decent drawbar. About 20 years ago a friend used 3 AMT gravel trailer kits and a Italeri Scania T142 to build an Australian road train. Pretty good it was too...

Also, about the same time, got 2 kits by 'Nostalgic Heroes', an early Toyota Celica and a MK1 Ford Capri. Poor interior detail as they were intended for motorising, but they looked OK. I don't think they were exactly 1/24, but round about. I put interiors in by chopping up bits and pieces from the spares box. Thing that I always wondered about these kits though was that inside the boxes were profile side, front and rear drawings and serial numbers for a Renault 30, Rover SD1 and MK1 Vauxhall Carlton Saloon, amongst others, as being in the same model series. They weren't in the catalogue provided in the box, so in those pre-internet everywhere days I used to wander around model shops hoping I would find these 'holy grails'... :) :)

The subject matter isn't shite, but the manufacturer definitely is. Polistil joined forces with Tonka in the 1980s and moved into the large 1/18 scale market.

However, they couldn't compete on detail with the likes of Bburago and the emerging players in this market such as Maisto, Revell diecast and Hotwheels had really advanced levels of detail. In addition to the opening doors and engine lid of this example, the Bburago effort had opening luggage compartments front and rear, proper plastic badges at the back and a far more detailed engine. As such, Polistil disappeared some time in the early 1990s.

It was always the Polistil Countach that I wanted, ever since I got 'Test Drive' for my Atari ST in 1987. I favoured this model as it could be had without the rear spoiler and was a little bigger and better looking than the Bburago equivalent. Sadly, my pocket money could only stretch to the 1/24 version.

Nowadays, they are mega cheap. I got the white one for £12 posted from e-bay and the black and red ones for £5 each at a local swapmeet last week. I'm reliving me in about 1988 now!

Next will be the 1/18 Bburago Testarossa, no shite subject matter, but surely 'modelshite'!

What's the craic with these Chrono models?

I have one (the Spitfire), I bought in Tavistock in the late '90s. Wasn't expensive, either, and i'm really impressed with it.

post-4819-0-96439400-1423328426_thumb.jpg

The bonnet opens really convincingly, the engine is really well detailed, as are the wheels. The cabin is nice (though the stick-on gauges are a bit '80s Bburago) and the exterior details (including badges) are spot on.

The weirdest thing is the pull-back-and-go mechanism! Never found one in a 1:18 before, pointless as it may be. I've only ever seen one other Chrono model before; an Elise.

I see LobsterDiecast carries them, what's the story? NOS or are they still around?
