Shite in Miniature II

I have a massive diecast collection.

Including a 1/18 scale Citroen Xsara Picasso and Toyota Yaris AND Ford Cougar.

Collected them all when I was <12. I'll get some pics.

The Picasso must be a Chinese market dealer model surely?

Yep, as is the Yaris. Badged as a Vitz IIRC.

I loved the Picasso, thought it was the tits 'cause the interior rear seats actually fold.

Those are ace! You can get some right oddball stuff in 1/18 if you are prepared to pay the postage from China.

Priced at 119/6!

Bloody hell, that was a pricey toy.

And you had to supply your own batteries and all.

It's been tinkered with already I don't think the motor is the original one and the cable is all disconnected.

It will be something to tinker with.

I paid €10.00 so not a lot really.

Have the original box Too,extremely tatty though.

I suspect many of these ended up borked but back in their original box!

Mine burned out fairly quickly and needed a lot of floor space.  It was also, I have to say, a bit dull to actually play with.  I suspect it was one of those things that was more fun to design and build!

Good find though!

Apart from chipped paint it's in quite good shape.

Wow, what a great find! The yellow one started my love for r/c cars since then. Brings back fond memories! Thanks for sharing. :-D

Glad you like it.

Amazing what old toys can do

Seems it's been a while since I last inflicted stuff what I have bought upon you all. But I have been quietly amassing stuff, even aircraft as I like them.

Aha, a CF just for Eddy. And a Zephyr Ute.

I also picked up this piece of tat.

Dates from 1978.

Fantastic find. I have the Range Rover version of this. I recall I got it in around 1984 from the Jolly Giant but my folks took it back for a replacement because it didnt work. I lost the clacker (more tea, Vicar?) years ago but the car is in great nick.

Jolly Giant, now that's a blast from the past, had a branch in Leeds, and every time I went there with my folks, there was hardly anyone in, me and a mate went there during school hols to buy stuff, and got turfed out because we didn't have an adult with us, so we went to Toymaster instead, who were more than happy to take our money in exchange for goods

Years ago, I had the idea of getting a model of each car I'd owned.  I got hold of a few (mostly fairly crappy ones, and all different scales) then eventually gave up on the idea, and I think the models have all been lost in various house moves (unless they're in a box somewhere).

I've recently decided to revive this idea, trying for a bit more consistency of quality and scale this time, and it's all Datsuncog's fault...

So, I've been idly browsing ebay with the idea of getting one every couple of months or something, and I come across an absolute carbon copy of my Saab.  So I had to have it!

I'm chuffed to bits: it's really detailed and just exactly like mine, apart from the steering wheel being on the wrong side.

Tell me though: am I going completely nuts?  In the photo, is the right-hand-side door mirror attached?  It's in the ebay listing photos and I think it's in that photo, but it's gone now.  I'm in a room with light-coloured furniture and carpets and I can't see it anywhere.  I've decided not to be too precious about it though; this is just for fun after all.

^^^ It's true - I'm a terrible, terrible influence.

Seriously though, that's a jolly nice Saab - and great to grow a collection with a purpose (rather than my previous grab-bag approach).

Should you happen have a handy-dandy list of everything you're looking for, I can put some feelers out - there's a decent model shop in Belfast that has all manner of weird and wonderful models passing through (where I got my Renault R10 a few months back, plus a Talbot Tagora Présidentiale for Lord Sterling).

I know you have them all listed in your cars thread, but I really am most shockingly lazy...

If you're interested in wall displays, I use IKEA box cabinets with some toughened glass shelves cut to size by a local glazier and then a few packs of Sugru rubber putty to hold them in place:

Total cost: about £20.

See?  Bad influence.  You could have told me to stop, but no...

(Love the Fuego by the way - I have a Matchbox one that I absolutely loved as a kid.  They were never common and I don't remember seeing them around in the flesh but I thought they were a fantastic shape and I loved the wheels.)

I'm not going to be completely anal about it - for example, one GS/A might be enough, I don't necessarily need three, or it might not be possible to find the right colour.  There are loads of Passat B2s on eBay at the moment, for example, but all red where mine was silver.  Again, not necessarily a problem.

I'm not in a hurry to do this: in fact I'd rather draw it out.  Buying one a month seems sensible.  There's a lovely Norev BX on eBay at the moment that's identical to my mark 1 (described as "off-white" - I prefer beige!) but I'm not currently willing to pay £44.  I'm willing to do a bit more hunting first.

That list in full:

1973 Mexico Brown Rover 2000 (I have a 3500S in the right colour but with a vinyl roof - near enough for now)

1977 Citroen GS saloon in cornflower blue

1982 Saab 99 2-door saloon in brown.  Non-Turbo, but had the right alloys so a model Turbo might suit.

1982 Citroen GSA hatch.  Horrible blue with black vinyl roof.

1976 Citroen CX Pallas saloon in white

1984 Citroen GSA Pallas hatch in black

1985 VW Passat B2 hatchback in silver

1986 Saab 900, 5-door hatchback, light pastel blue (not Turbo or sporty in any way)

1992 Citroen BX hatchback, sorta slate grey.

1986 Citroen BX hatchback *mark 2*, pogweasel pink

1985 Citroen BX hatchback *mark 1* beige (off-white indeed).

1994 Citroen ZX, 5-door hatchback, povvo spec, horrid dark green

1992 Citroen XM hatch, slate grey

1990 Citroen BX estate, Olympic Blue (I am especially keen to get a decent replica of this)

2002 (mk 2) Citroen Xsara 5-door hatch, light grey

2000 Volvo S40 2.0T, dark metallic blue

2005 Volvo V50 (Mine was some colour or other, I don't really care, Datsuncog will be sending me one and that's good enough)

Curveball!  1985 Honda Vision 50 moped, light blue.  Do people make 1:43 models of cheap scooters?

Modern Saab - already achieved today.

What make etc is the mk2 zephyr ute?

It.s by Trax in Australia, comes in grey or red. Website https://www.topgear.com.au/ They don't usually make that many of each model and some sell out pretty quickly.

Great thanks, nice model, I see they do an 1800 landcrab ute one too.
