Shite in Miniature II

That Expo piece is right up my alley, would love to create something along the lines of Motorama.

The problem is that hardly any Motorama concepts exist in el chepo plastic kit form.

Something that would actually be considred a no brainer by the ones not working in the model kit industry.

Hence building a Motorama exhibit wouldn't be such a big issue, but getting the models for it would cost the downpayment on a house.

Gosh those Neos are nice.

I wish they'd make them to the only truly proper scale.

Yeah, but these pint sized ones are easier to store. I can get more models in the same space!

They apparently do make 1/87 scale versions too...

True, larger scale than 1:43 do take up considerable real estate.

But if your eyesight were as dim as mine, they wouldn't do anything for you.

And I haven't seen my Wiking H0s in years...

Actually, my scale bigottery started 40 years ago.

There were hardly any yanks available in 43rd back then, the only dosage form was 1:24/25 plastic kits.

So I ended up with that scale and became a modeller, not so much because I enjoy it so much,

but because it is a necessary evil.

The past ten odd years changed all that, what with an explosion of septics in 43rd, but at that time,

I was already 30 years into accumulating kits, so point of no return had been reached.

Around that time, the first few 1/18s had crept in as well, simply because it's impossible to avoid that scale

entirely if one is a model car nut. Well, quietly and covertly, this has meanwhile grown into a 200 strong collection.

I have reached a point, where further expansion of the collection is hardly possible, due to space constraints.

Reduction of existing stock to free up space for future stuff is impossible as well, since that would involve

dealing with eBay mongs as a recent feeble attempt has proven. It was so bad, that I now removed all my listings.

Storing stuff is the problem I have, I've got loads of OO gauge model locomotives, coaches, wagons etc, far far more than I could ever use or display on my model railway.

Then I've got my 1/16 RC tanks and now these 1/43 cars starting to build up.

Trouble is, I don't really want to thin any of my stuff out by selling them either!

The scale thing, I don't mind 1/43 It's big enough to have good levels of detail and realism but still small enough to collect without taking up so much space. Plus it's easier to build a nice little display model for.

Easy for me aswell of course as I'm just starting my collection so I can pick and choose given the better availability of the cars I like in 1/43 now.

I'm not going even try to collect the whole range of Neo or whatever, I'm just going for the stuff I like or the stuff I own/have owned the real cars. My main interest is in 60's and 70's yanks. But I've got a Neo mk2 Granada on it's way and a Minichamps die cast mk2 Capri too!

One model that I really want though is one of the BOS 1/18 Granada mk2 estates. They look really good models.

Just moved house and sadly my Arthur Daley diorama was badly damaged in the move, will get a new one after Chrimbo once finances recover from the mahoosive costs involving a house move

Unlike!

Only one thing for it Felly - onward and upward, bigger and better.   Damn shame, though.

I now have a shed for model building activities when the weather gets better though, that's a major upside. I wasn't 100% happy with the Daley diorama, will built mk2 better, using a decent craft knife, not shite from Poundland that couldn't cut hot butter.

Can you get chickenwire fencing in 1/43 scale?  The old caravan should be easy enough to scratchbuild, it's all sharp lines and flat surfaces, and I'm sure the "brick" wall behind it will be available...

Having your own shed for this sort of thing is great, I've got an 8' x 12' one for the same thing.

I've put power and lighting into it and lined the inside of the roof with polystyrene insulation panels, then lined all the walls and door with fibreglass loft insulation then panelled it all in with cheap pine tongue and groove interior cladding.

It looks pretty good but also keeps the chill off. It's still not quite comfortable in the middle of winter but I've got a small plug in heater which does the job.

I've got a 1:24 1964 Ford Galaxie in very scruffy condition, looks like a dealer promotional car because it's got all the service interval stuff underneath.

I originally bought it to use as a master mould but 1:24 scale is too big for me.  It came from the US a few years ago but I'm not going to do anything with it, open to offers.

It's the Craftsman series kit, which was made with the promo tool.

A genuine promo would be made from cycolac, not styrene.

The corresponding annual kit had working lights and engine detail:

That tool was modified into an oval track racer in the 70s and thus is ruined forever.

The promo tool was used for reissues several times over the decades, in kit as well as assembled "promo" form.

You learn something new every day!  If you're not careful.

It feels like styrene but I can't see a material code in the moulding anywhere.  It definitely doesn't have working lights or engine detail but the chassis is quite nice to look at.

Cycolac has a completely different look and feel. It's the material buckets are moulded from, so is more elastic, has a high gloss surface and much more vivid colour.

More 1/43's arrived today!

Neo AMC Pacer! This one looks brilliant! Really nice little model.

I still think the seller would multiply his chances by selling them individually.

I’m inclined to agree - I suppose he wants to avoid the time/hassle of dealing with up to 64 different buyers, individually packing and sending them out, etc.

I dont have much clue on such things , Do they really fetch that much ? Im die cast and old airfix , the new stuff I know fluff all about

Well, eBay is total shit.

I just sold three models and have nothing but trouble because of it.

The best thing you can do with stuff you don't want anymore is taking it to the tip.

I'm so pissed off, I better stop typing.

I agree, I'd just as soon give stuff away these days.
