Looks like Renault are looking at doing the whole "big French car" thing again.

Renault outperformed French competitor PSA Peugeot Citroen in reporting higher earnings and cash flow last year. Renault plans a new generation of its Espace minivan for 2014, followed by a new luxury sedan, Tavares said today. The Mercedes-based vehicle is the third luxury model planned, he said.

 

“It is about using their platform and designing a Renault upper body to extend to it what I might call the French touch,†Tavares said.

 

Production for the model would be “concentrated†in France, according to Ghosn. The platform alone would not allow them to charge higher prices, which are dependent on the car's specifications, he added.

I've nothing against the C6, but the French government are the only ones who buy big French luxobarges. Presumably at a massive discount.

That Samsung thing looks like it's destined for a life of minicabbing. Utter piss. That kind of shite might go down well in Korea, but I don't think it would fly in Europe or the US.

 

Samsung should stick to making phones and DVD players.

In the fantasy land of the French management, 'Renault' is a premium brand! That's why they have Dacia, for the plebs.

 

As it's going to be based on a Mercedes platform, and Merc won't give them the latest technology, so it will effectively be a last gen E or S class, so it will be like a Gallic Chrysler 300, an interesting but perhaps also unsettling idea.

 

When was the last Renault front engine rear drive car anyway? Must be before the 4CV?

Ah yes the SAFRANE!

Well i got excited when i heard this was being launched,only because i was going to hold of all the SAFRANE labelled stuff for the showroom,but then i heard we were not getting them(there was a plan to display my V6 Safrane with a new one in the showroom)i got a bit pissed of,still how do i get hold of some of those SAFRANE numberplates....

If i,am correct its the only Renault model name they have reused.

Still who lives in Asia who can get them numberplates for me?

There was a special edition of the 14 named the Safrane back in the 70s - I have a flyer for one somewhere.

Worse still, it looks like it was snapped up by someone who is flogging it on within a day!! I bet they were on the phone with the original seller when I rang the latter and "the person was unavailable". I'm more than a little pissed off with my luck.
