eddyramrod Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 [Pedant mode] By "Trails" I think you mean "Trials" (which used to be a TV highlight, why don't we still see them!!!!!) and the Fiat 500 is actually a 600, but you were close! [/Pedant mode]Another superb collection Trig, thank you!
RedSparrow Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Cor! I say! A40s are ace. Like the first supermini IMO.
HMC Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Like the austin atlantic 'car of the week', would had put an offer in, that must have held top shite credentials in 1962 as a forgotten curiosity at the time
Skizzer Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Ah, grand. You can't beat a bit of Leslie Phillips The unknown trials car is a Lotus Six, by the way, unless I'm very much mistaken.
eddyramrod Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Cor! I say! A40s are ace. Like the first supermini IMO. Very much so! Split-hatchback, folding rear seat, 1098 A-series; and if you were in Italy, you could have the Innocenti Combinata with a single-piece tailgate! Simple British kit in a smooth Italian suit, with RWD. It doesn't get much better really.Of course I might be slightly biased...
Mash Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Magic! I love this period. Not seen this for a while but I must have it somewhere on video. I've got a quite a bit of stuff to transfer to DVD when I get round to it. There's a film called "Go To Blazes" which was made in about '62 which I'll make my first task - there are some great screen grabs in that.
garethj Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 I'd never heard of this until I read about it in Martin Buckley's book about car chases, it's a very good watch, the street scenes are ace and some of the high speed driving is epic when you consider how cars like that handled. The red VW bus is a very rare 23 window btw, the 21 window doesn't have the rear curved windows.
jonny69 Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Bravo Trigger, another great effort on the screenies! Loving this:
trigger Posted February 14, 2012 Author Posted February 14, 2012 ^ That is a great scene, the guy driving it really knows how to handle the old Jag, it really rolls through that corner!
Conrad D. Conelrad Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Was there some sort of BBFC ruling in the 60s and 70s that if you had an old Jag in your film, it had to crash at some point?
Albert Ross Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Wasn't that Austin Trials car in the Motorail photothread too? Or am I dreaming?

mouseflakes Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 ^^ I've often heard it said that those 'Confessions...' films featured plenty of bangers - I now see why. Thanks for that.
Andrew353w Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 That's Borehamwood High Street, that is! The second one is nearer the railway station and shows a W.P.C. (with particularly good legs ) helping people across the road to the station. Clearly this was one of Elstree's finer filmic efforts.....
AnthonyG Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 Love the Minivan. I didn't know these films were 'based' on books, they must have been bloody awful, like reading a randy dreamer's letter to a 1972 Mayfair that goes on for 150 pages. Seen the Driving Instructor one yet Trig?

AnthonyG Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 Great stuff! Silver car is a Mk4 Zodiac. Behind it on the other side of the road is an ultra rare Allegro SS with a black rear panel copied from the Cortina 1600E. Love all the stunt cars that already have dents in them (like the red 1100) which implies it's the second or third time they've staged the crash!
