My dear friend Tony has had this Monty for so long I cant remember him being without it! Originally, it was green/blue with tons of rust thrown in and looked a total shed. He went away on holiday and his son matt blacked it as a surprise, you should have seen his face. Old Monty has long since lost most of her facilities inc central locking, electric windows, use of rear doors and handle, dash lights, heater and more but she just keeps on going with copious amounts of money and welding each and every year bless her. The observant will notice his lad also badged her as the first "stealth" Montego in existence, although I can hear my mate before he knocks at the door, the heady rumble of a near 170k mile diesel is a fanfare of his arrival. He has stated he will NEVER let her go and will continue to plough love and money into her. Well done Tony, a real shiter, worthy of a mention on this great site, huzzah, huzzah, huzzah................tonymontynsfr.jpg

Deliciously shambolic. They really did a corking job with the Monty estate. Remember the good old days when estates were actually a useful estate shape?

Strange how the average life expectancy of a Montego seemed to be much shorter than the equivalent Sierra, so it's nice to see one hanging on in there. Dad had a couple of nearly new ones in the early 90s, firstly a 1.6LX estate which he got rid of a year later in favour of an identical but 2.0 carb example after (probably correctly) concluding that a bit more grunt would be handy on a family holiday to Denmark. Traded that in when six years old for his current 850 estate; by that time he had been touching up rust blisters on the inner sills and elsewhere with Tipp-Ex, worryingly.

Jesus... that is beautiful. There was a girl in primary school that I used to go on the school run with who's mum had one of these which she got to keep after the divorce (the husband got the Volvo 240 with epic rear facing seats).

Good on him keeping it going even when his son suprised him like that.

Outstanding effort --- lots of these lost their engines as they were a popular fitment into Series Land Rovers a few years ago (before TDI 200s got cheap enough)

These cars are so practical and the mpg is amazing. Its a pity they dont wear too well though, 7 seater for £450! The engine in this one will never see a landy thank god, Tonys other shite is a 95 Omega V6, will try and cadge a few pics of that too............. :D
