taxed finally - and it was out today for a run

Well, there's been a Fiat126 bis sat on the drive since 20 December. I taxed it yesterday and today was its first trip out - my, what fun it is.

It runs well, superbly even - and I spent a reasonable part of the 35 mile drive with the needle off the speedo (a rather optimistic 80mph!).

It is much better than I thought it would be - certainly faster than my last 126. Took it up Crickley Hill, where, three up, it was still nudging 35mph at the top - one the way back down it was doing over 80 on the speedo (quite a lot more).

Engine is sweet, it handles well, you can really throw it round corners. Filled it up - couldn't get any more than £19 worth in to fill the tank - 4.5 gallons maximum! Parked next to a real Mini in the garden centre (it is smaller than the Mini) before a 12 mile blast up the M5 at full throttle!

So, would I recommend one! Damn, yes! Buy one if you see one - 50mpg, cheap tax, easy to get parts, cheap to run, and many many smiles per mile.

tomorrow - lol - the camera was left at home. HAd three previous tax discs in the holder - one each from 2006, 2010 and 2011. 2006 one from Bourne, Lincs.

I had three rear-engined 500s, I know exactly what you mean about the handling. Never fails to raise a smile!

This sounds great! My third car was an FSM 652cc aircooled job, and it's amazing how much fun you can have below 60 mph!

Is your 126 white? If so it must have been you I saw barreling down the hill whilst I was chugging my way up it in the BX :) We were on our way home from visiting the in-laws in Worcester. I'd seen a few other classics on the A417 so presumed there had been a New Year meet nearby.

If only they made new cars like that....

that's terrible - I never even spotted the BX - and I own one of them too!

Going up I saw a few classics coming down - including an A35 van and a red Frogeye.

It was me though!

Next time, I'll wave, honest!

Same here! Made me smile seeing a 126 pelting along, I hope you got home before it started pissing it down.
