  1. I've been fortunate enough not to injure myself too seriously while working on cars, although a close friend of mine had an incident a couple of years back. He was changing springs on a Polo, when the spring compressors failed. The strut top was still on, so the spring didn't get launched... but unfortunately two of his fingers were in the spring's path. The end of one was completely severed, and the other one crushed to a bloody pulp and jammed under the strut top. Apparently he calmly walked into the house, with his fingertip in a plastic bag and an entire suspension strut still attached to his hand, and called 999. Amazingly, after a couple of surgeries they actually managed to reattach everything and make them look finger-shaped again, although he doesn't have much sensation in them anymore. He bought a floor-mounted hydraulic spring compressor after that...
  2. On the posts I've seen, haven't really seen the banger community ripping anyone to shreds. Just seems to be a nonchalant shrug on the whole, even seen a few shithouse replies trying to suggest the owners were in on it for insurance purposes, and others saying stolen cars are just a fact of the sport. Absolutely no shame, some people. While I know it's a minority who do the stealing, a LOT more are complicit and/or turn a blind eye. They're part of the problem as well. If known thieves were drummed out of the community sharpish there'd be far less of a problem.
  3. Purple thing almost looks like someone built a car out of a fighter jet cockpit...
  4. Mk2 Cav, needs "minor work for MOT". Exactly what work isn't specified, but it does look good. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/604279884594851
  5. That's what gets me... not everyone gets on, it's a fact of life. Sometimes you do take an immediate and irrational dislike to a person. That's human, done it myself before. No need to be a dickhead about it though. They're getting a fucking fondue set now.
  6. So after having a go at me on Facebook for no reason at all a couple of times in the last couple of weeks, a real-world acquaintance of mine unfriended and blocked me, saying "Sorry mate, I don't know what it is about you but you just rub me up the wrong way. Haven't liked you since the second I met you, so best we part ways. Again, it's nothing in particular, it's just how it is." It's lucky I don't have an ego to bruise anymore, otherwise that would have hurt! Awkward thing is, he's the fiancé of another friend I've known for 15 years. That's going to be an awkward wedding invite...
  7. Dangly mirror Sierra? In brown? With a beige/brown interior? Welp, might as well close the thread, I don't think we're going to top this.
  8. Tidy-looking 400: https://www.gumtree.com/p/rover/1996-rover-400-low-mileage-12-months-mot/1438671681
  9. Developed an odd fondness for these after seeing a couple at FOTU. Looks a decent purchase for the money. https://www.gumtree.com/p/toyota/toyota-rav-4-estate-1996-manual-1998-cc-3-doors/1438679884
  10. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/304582510056 Very shiny looking Favorit.
  11. Since there seems to be a bit of interest in Corsa Bs at the moment... here's a slightly sun-bleached example from the Costa Del Scouse. https://www.gumtree.com/p/vauxhall/vauxhall-corsa-hatchback-1999-manual-1199-cc-5-doors/1438615217
  12. Uh-oh, it's the infamous 605 again... with the dodgy HG and the even dodgier seller. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/165601058667
  13. Mk1 Punto, no MOT and requires sparkly stick action. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/295126094238?hash=item44b6e2d19e:g:3isAAOSwMopi56B5
  14. I only ever played the 3d-era games, the 2d era was a bit before my time and I lost interest by the HD era. In GTA 3, I'd always break into the car dealership and nick the Banshee: In Vice City, the Sentinel XS was my first choice, usually in blue. Couldn't find a pic of a blue one, so here's a red one: And finally San Andreas, the good old Stallion was my main choice, largely because I really liked the engine sound they gave it.
  15. Rumour has it the tappet noises are still echoing around the castle grounds...
  16. Mine is much the same, nobody ever takes pics of it. I'm putting it down to there being a far better and near identical example in the concourse. Also possibly due to Rover R8s just not being a very interesting car even by FoTU standards, unless they're totally mint. Still, I like it do that's what matters. What car were you in?
  17. Rover 100 near me, been there for many years... I suspect it'll be crispy by this point.
  18. Actually, I don't recall seeing one, and j can't find any in my pics! Weird. Some proper obscure stuff there, but no 405s. Speaking of pics, here's a few more. Just because.
  19. Well, that was a long but entertaining day. Rover despite its overall shabbiness was flawless on the drive there and back, I managed to get there before the queue situation got too severe, and there were lots of great people that I didn't talk to due to my potato-like social skillset. I'm expecting my car to be in lots of people's pics and videos... in the background, as I was next to @rob88h's Sierra which got a LOT of (well deserved) attention. Particular highlight was being a couple of cars behind @mat_the_cat's V8 Stellar on the way home, and listening to lovely V8 noises. Then going our separate ways, and then somehow ending up in front of him on the A46. More lovely V8 noises as he overtook! I took over 150 pics, but I imagine uploading all of them would bore you. Here's just a sample:
  20. I appear to have landed next to the dieseL Sierra...
  21. What's left of the paint has been cleaned, Grimsthorpe is 2 hours away. Let's begin!
