  1. This is a strange one, a while ago I won a Corgi Monte Mini (a pretty shit one) on ebay for £2.95 +p&p. After a few weeks it hadn't turned up & the seller told me Evri had lost it and I was refunded. This was it... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Corgi-Toys-Mini-Cooper-Rally-1960s-/165960437369?nma=true&si=IMjdDwdKAQG9DHwb6mKAN8YcdTo%3D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 So today I was looking at ebay again (!) and saw this with £4.95 starting bid... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/166026040421?hash=item26a7ec5465:g:uicAAOSw72FkNFCB&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA0AQKNtPCo4IwpAzYHfEbvOA760LTTvgJzSA%2FLaP4kCa%2BXtdEdXZ1VvuPAU9RNWX%2Fn01%2BuxoXMVR6ncMBhRdfvh7ODyDrajMegYoM6vPaFaK49iwYtw8Z6Jrhq%2B9Fl%2Bw%2BpWVQ60kbUC12OMZQljqrcygILhOjcKg8IYy8TmLrOPopKBdZ%2BxoCoLWuys2BfXJJPBRhc4LXqP39ZSQ8XwTqfx0mehB3VXIorWDCABNGOhUWjZcsg89xcNSkUjsaOPA5H1w%2BTY3g%2F53LQ%2B4GqAkPUfA%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR9qss77vYQ So what ya all reckon?
  2. What a coincidence! Might be just a bit too much enough though!
  3. Funny I just found this with some other stuff... Similar
  4. Ok another question for all you seasoned modification experts, I would like to re purpose these Whizzwheels and the axle needs to be narrower. Do you cut the blibble off the end with sidecutters to make it shorter? How about fixing the wheels on again, crush the end in a vice or blob of Araldite? Or tell me the best way!
  5. This is more than I paid for mine when two years old in 1996.. https://www.directcarsales.co.uk/cars/volkswagen/golf/gti/687201/ It does look nice, but £7k? .
  6. The XJC, Senator and Supra are all lovely, but I'm thinking they are the bigger Corgi 1/32 (or similar) scale and I've decided to stick to the older 1/43 models. However that Supra... Edit; strange that the Supra is LHD...
  7. Love this! El Camino Vauxhall...
  8. @eddyramrod I have a few scrap toys if you’re interested, let me know and I can put some photos on for you. Corgi Consol Classic 315 badly repainted, missing bonnet, windows, steering wheel and with slightly crushed rear wing. Corgi Jag MkX in bits not sure what’s missing without digging it out. Dinky Police Transit, in bits and wheel arches cut about and missing the Police rack and also side loading door. Corgi Police Imp I got from Dan, has slightly damaged windows and generally a bit tatty, I was going to either turn it into a Monte Carlo car or restore it, but I have too many projects! Corgi Citroen Safari, I have two that would make one good car, my original repainted badly and missing complete tailgate and one from Dan complete (maybe missing tailgate window) with broken windows. Corgi Plymouth Sports Suburban I got from the Toy Fair, complete but badly repainted, I was going to refurb this but if you want it I’m happy with that. Probably tyres missing from most.
  9. Could you ask Smoll Eddy where he gets his wheels from please? Also does he have 1.43 ish scale wheels?
  10. I should have bought one of these instead of the real thing as I loved how it looked, but not much else!
  11. What scale is the Solido XM? Looks lovely just like the real thing! The only Miura I have is the Corgi one... The box had a sticker saying new Whizzwheels version, did any Golden Jacks one get made at all?
  12. I’m very jealous of all the boot fair finds, the one near me has been unable to start due to the site being waterlogged and today is raining again! I’ve been wasting my money on ebay making starting price bids on all sorts of stuff and finding the ones I’d really like being lost by a few pence (although I know what happens if you get into a bidding war!) and winning the so so ones leaving me vaguely disappointed. I will have to look out for another toy fair to feed my new found addiction! @DatsuncogYes please!
  13. That looks very promising!! ^^^
  14. Also I just noticed I had put a Canterbury registration on it as we lived in Herne Bay!
  15. I Have now cleaned up the Corgis I bought at the toy fair on Sunday and pretty pleased with how they came out... In particular the interior is now lovely and while givving it a polish I noticed that this does also have the name HJ Mulliner Park Ward on the base like the RR refered to by @eddyramrod. The Citroen Safari came up really well as it had a load of yellow stuff over it, more or less gone now As you can see I've fitted new tyres The Pathfinder looked good anyway I thought I took pics of the Classic, but apparently not... So I have now fitted the jewel to the headlight of the Bentley I got from Dan and a spare wheel Happy with that! As you all know I recently painted some Dinky Mokes to look like Prisoner models for the summer house. I've also painted a Matchbox Super Seven (from dan as well maybe?) even though it's the wrong scale and also the later streamlined style Seven, but came out ok even so (IMO) Screen from some random clear plastic box and spare wheel from an old Corgi Mini I see the spare has slipped after I UHU'd it, please don't tell Mrs Concern as she'll have me doing it again and I CBA. Number plates printed out from t'internet Headlamps from a bit of sprue that happened to be chrome effect Lastly I bit of a strange question as I'm undecided what to do. I have my Dinky rally Cortina, owned from new that at some point I repainted It's hand paint Humbrol, but looks ok I painted the red Lotus stripes to replace the paper stick ons and did the bonnet and boot in white rather than red So I'm inclined to re do this by spraying it as I have some white and red paint and could buy repro stickers I can't decide, leave as is or re do more accurately with spray and stickers?
  16. Well it seems I am officially old now! Mrs Concern spotted that there was to be a toy and model fair on down the road from us at Polegate, so we went along this morning. Never been to one before and we both enjoyed it! We weren’t actually the youngest there, but it was close and apart from the “ladies” providing teas, Mrs Concern the only female. I bought a random selection of stuff, some of which I actually wanted. I had a Corgi Riley Pathfinder Police car as a kid, but no sign of it now so it’s been on my wish list as a replacement. The paint is really good, not many chips or scratches and nice and shiny. The bell is missing from the roof, but I’m pretty sure both the bell and siren were missing from my original for most of my ownership. Next one of my fave cars as a small boy was a Corgi Ford Classic. The bonnet pops up when you press down on the front suspension and I would do a ventriloquist voice “Good Morning” as it opened on the breakfast table, so that’s been on the list too. This one is pretty nice, a few paint chips, but the bonnet is good and the grill not bent out of shape like so many. I actually have the original still, but been repainted brown and the bonnet has broken off and one of the rear fins is squashed so this is very welcome. I also bought a few I didn’t have on my list. Spotted this Corgi Fiat 1800, I didn’t have one as a kid, but it just looked so nice despite the shit banger racing re paint! I’ll put that in the box for a re furb, but I can’t stop looking at it I like it so much. Also in the Tat box was this badly repainted Corgi Plymouth Wagon which wanted me to rescue it. I’ve never been keen on any American cars apart from muscle cars, but I like this. In the box for later maybe. By the way what is the strange spherical shape under the rear axle? Is it meant to represent the diff or something else? I spotted this Citroen Safari in white just like one I had and still have with a repaint and no tailgate at all. I did get another one from Dan that had broken windows so I could put the two together into one good one. I may still do that, but this is the right colour already. Lastly I saw a Corgi Bentley in bright pink with quite a chipped paint finish and missing grill and one jewelled headlight, I was tempted until I saw another one on the same stall in much better condition and found it was only £4! So I got it and it’s lovely! It does have some strange white shading to the paint around the edges which I think is the lacquer going funny and it’s pretty filthy. I love the opening bonnet boot and doors. And the printed dashboard. I want a few newer Corgis with Whizzwheels for the Scammell Tri Deck Transporter particularly in a bright colour and this Bentley is contemporary with it. I don’t really understand how Corgi changed the scale of toys. As I understand it the early ones from 60s were 1/43 and later ones from the 80s such as the Minis I showed above on my Tri Deck and the Porsche 924 I got from Dan were 1/35 or similar. However this Bentley was in the 1970 catalogue, so what scale is it? It is pretty big.
  17. Sounds a great plan to do the HDT (never heard of it haha) but is suitable (cheap) Mack likely? You've now got me looking at Mack Tankers, H Cab Express Services and Holmes Wreckers, where will this end. Arrg! It was so simple when I just liked Minis!
  18. I've not seen Mk3 Escorts in that sort of scale so thanks for that post. Do they have a huge shovel front spoiler tho?
  19. I've never seen one with that black tab and don't understand why you'd need it. Mine doesn't and never has had it and the one reviewed on Model Auto Review doesn't either so you live and learn! That looks just right with the Carrimore, no wonder you're pleased (being a sad git I looked at sold items to see what you paid-bargain!) and like you I like them to be a bit playworn rather than "mint". However I think a repaint of the roof and new mirrors would improve it no end. I'm really getting into these transporters and a bonus is that Mrs Concern likes to have these displayed with cars loaded in the dining room! I'd quite like to look for an older Bedford one next, better not though
  20. Funnily enough I've been working on restoring a few models including a Dinky Viva HA. I stripped the paint off all the Corgis fairly easily, the Dinky Mk1 Escort was a bit more stubborn, but the Viva has been sat in the tub of paint stripper since last Saturday and the metallic blue still won't scrape off! The Escort was a similar metallic blue btw. Not sure what colour I'll be painting it when I do strip it, but want to use what I have already. It is a nice model with opening boot and bonnet, but like you I prefer Corgi and I think they somehow capture the look of the real thing better than Dinky. Dinky usually have more opening parts, but often look wrong. I have one new Corgi Club Mini and it is exactly right so I think these re manufactured/repros/whatever are a great idea.
  21. I had a bit of a play about with The Ford H with Carrimore Transporter & Scammell Handyman with Carrimore Tri Deck Transporter. I have been trying to complete my original Gift Set 48 with the correct cars that I had with mine. I’m not sure which Rally Mini I had as I had lots of different versions, none of which I still have so I’ve got one with the signature roof and a Sun Rally one now either of which could have been part of the set. I’ve finally put some new tyres on the Cortina Estate, got a repro horn for the cab (I need to dull it down a bit) and cleaned all of them up properly. After I’d sent off my Steve Flowers order I realised I also need the chevrons for the load ramp so that’s on the list for the next order. Here it is with my original cataloque. Next I got the Scammell for a quick comparison, The Scammell plus Tri Deck is noticeably longer and higher overall than the Ford. The Scammell Tractor unit is a fair bit shorter than the Ford, which is huge and superbly detailed with ladders, mirrors and horns while the Scammell has dual jewel headlights and a spare wheel and the drivetrain all realistically replicated as well as wheels just as detailed as those on the Ford. The Fords party piece is the flip up cab revealing the engine, as a kid I was fascinated by the detail including the rotating fan on the front of the engine! I’d totally forgotten about this feature until I cleaned it all up. The exhaust stack on my Ford is broken off where the bracket to the cab is, I chose not to replace it as when the cab is turned, it catches on the transporter which is how it broke in the first place. Maybe with new suspension it would clear ok, but I can’t remember. So playing with the Scammell, I can get nine Minis on it! Maybe with the load ramp (I don’t have one) the four on the top deck wouldn’t fit, I’ll find out when I get a repro one. I tried various combinations of Corgi cars and the clearance is very tight, the Renault 16 wont fit on either lower deck as too tall. The Mercedes 350SL just scrapes the roof and the track of the front wheels is slightly too wide to fit in the track. The Cortina Mk3 fits in all positions as do the 911, Mini Marcos, Lamborghini, MGB and C111. I also tried some newer Minis and the track on those is too wide as well. Overall they are both fabulous models, I loved my Ford one when I was a kid and still do now. I would have preferred the Scammell tractor unit as it was something I saw on the streets of Kent when growing up and was a bit confused when I discovered the Ford was American. My Ford and Carrimore have worn well despite some heavy play and outlasted most of the cars as I only still have the Rover, Cortina and one (repainted) Mini left. It has some damage, the aforementioned exhaust and the horn, funnily enough until very recently the horn was just bent down. Then I found it had broken off and in the bottom of the box, but cleverly left it on top of the model and when I came to glue it on, it was lost! The tractor unit has been partially “detailed” in matt black Humbrol by a young me and both it and the trailer have chips and scratches in the paint, but still very presentable. I’m very pleased with my purchase of the Scammell Tri Deck, as a kid I’d have loved it even more than the Ford I think. My example is in very good condition, just a few paint chips and the wheel chocks missing. One problem is that the little feet that come down when the tractor is removed won’t stay in the raised position, not sure why not. TLDR; I have my original Ford H with Transporter and six cars I've bought a Scammell with Tri DeckTransporter They're both great!
  22. Some may know that Mrs Concern has a Dinky Prisoner Mini Moke in the summer house, well sometime last year she bought a cheap Moke at a boot fair and an idea was hatched! We got a further two Dinky Mokes for next to nothing and ended up with these... All pretty tidy, an original Fern green, a Tiny the Giraffe (who is Tiny? Never heard of him) one in orange and a much later Paramoke with Whizzwheels (or whatever Dinky call them). The plan was to paint them all white and apply repro stickers to make a small fleet of Prisoner Mokes! I started off (being a cheapskate) by painting the orange one by hand with Humbrol white enamel. No good it was streaky AF. So stripped that one completely and then sprayed all of them white primer, then white gloss. All good so far. Next the brown panels and I tried painting by hand with Humbrol and again far too streaky! This was meant to be a budget project, but never mind, Nut Brown spray enamel purchased and after what seemed like days of applying masking tape we have three replica Prisoner Mokes. The original Prisoner Moke we have has only the tops painted brown. Having looked on t’internet I decided that there is no rhyme or reason as to which had the side “pannier” panels painted brown so I did the old “spun” wheel one and the Paramoke with that effect and the Tiny one like our original. With set or three of repro stickers and some Steve Flowers parts I finished this afternoon. Be seeing you!
  23. I admit it... I am weak... I did manage to use an ebay discount code for the first time though...
  24. I'll just defend myself here by saying when I would put it in a vice, I really meant loosly hold it not squash the poor thing haha! I'll try the warm it up idea though, thanks!
