purplebargeken
The Galaxy (1998 2.0 pez) needs a top up. Can't recall what type it should be. Google is not much bloody help. The Galaxy - in a barn in Essex, I'm not. Nowhere local to the barn that sells anti-freeze so I need to get some before I pop over again. Anyone know what type? Tamworthbay
Check the colour - blue is glycol, orange red is OAT. No way of knowing for sure without checking as it could have been changed.
Tamworthbay
And don’t mix the two as it makes a gel that clogs all sorts.
Tamworthbay
Oh and the Beemer is on glycol if you ever need to know.

Tamworthbay
Don’t risk it mate or get both. You can get a hybrid that is compatible with both but I am not convinced it’s very good.
Tamworthbay
It’s also on the crossover time so could have been either when new, I would guess it’s just in OAT timescale as the switchover for Ford was around 98-99 iirc. But be sure before you use it as it cause massive grief if you get it wrong make. It blocks the rad and heater matrix a treat. purplebargeken
Stanky
shoot me down here, but if its just a top-up, and the system has coolant/AF in it already then just get a litre of distilled water and use that. 100% guaranteed to be compatible. Edit to add - this will sort it out so you have something liquid to put in it right away. When there, and adding the distilled water, note down what colour the coolat/AF is and next time you are there/fancy draining and refilling it properly, you know what stuff to get. Also: CHEAP. purplebargeken and Tamworthbay
purplebargeken
Yes, thinking along the same lines as a 'get me home' re: distilled water. It's a bugger with the car been not local, oh well, that should change later this week

Yeah... actually I'd just put tap water in it. Obviously I know nothing.
Felly Magic
If it's a VAG engine it will probably be orange/pink shit purplebargeken

Shirley Knott
Galaxy so ford Lots of the Ford Galaxy's came with a vag group engine fitted. If it's one of those then ECP's G12 concentrate works well (2 years and going strong across my 2 VAG dervs) and costs a fraction of the purple G13 that VW now want to sell you

Timewaster
Beware. I don't know if you can still buy it, but cheap methanol antifreeze was also pink. And not much good. None of your sealed for life stuff, more like your grandads ritual of changing the water in October and draining it out in march every year. Check the label. djimbob
I've used Prestone anti freeze which claims to be ok for all types for several years, not had any problems at all
