Right, a bit of a resurrection of this thread with an update. It's been dificult finding any time to actually watch any DVDs that I can do screen grabs from...

 

But over the past couple of months I've been able to screen grab episodes of 'A Very Peculiar Practice' - this is a great series from 1986 (Bob Buzzard and his 'rinky dinky' computer is excellent) and there is a reasonable amount of old rammel putting in an appearance.....

Another update…

 

 

This update is ‘The Plank’ from 1967. Starring two comedy legends in Eric Sykes and Tommy Cooper, it’s regarded as a silent film, although there is occasional dialogue in it.

 

The gist is that Eric and Tommy are putting the floor boards in a new build house. They are one board short so have to go to the timber yard, in their Morris 8, to get another one. The film then follows the slapstick scrapes and escapades they get into just getting the plank back to site.

 

There is a lot of of old chod in the background, although the little old Morris is the star, which ultimately becomes a bit of a ‘clown car’….

Excellent, I have the 78 remake on DVD (along with Its Your Move) and I have been giving some thought to doing the same as its chock full of 70's chod.

A few months ago I got another ‘Look at Life’ DVD, this one all about sport and there are a few films on it about sport of the four wheeled variety…

 

So,  I thought I’d dust this thread off, pump up it’s tyres and take it for a run round the block and see what happens….

 

I’ll start with ‘Against the Clock’ which is undated on the blurb but is about the 1960 RAC Rally.

 

As per my past updates, my screenshots will be of cars on film and any background shots and people that I find interesting…

Hello Shiters, update time…

 

Another ‘Look at Life’ film called ‘Smashing Through’. This one is about stock car racing. There is no date but it is probably about 1961, as the commentary mentions stock car racing being in the UK for seven years – wikipedia and google say it arrived in 1954...

 

Mostly it is a film about the competitors, how they build the cars and footage of a race.

 

 

Down the scrappy, getting a six pot motor and a van chassis, to start a build with…

I believe he didn't start going to stock car races until the early 1970s to be precise! His Radio 4 program about the subject is wonderful, comparing the thick exhaust smoke and occasional flash of flame to a a sunset by Turner. Brilliant.

Well. I recently posted a few pics out my photobucket account into the 'one shite phot per post ' thread. This and the fact our village now has fast fibre broadband which means all my picture uploading is a lot fuggin faster, made me think I ought to revive my screen grabs thread which I used to update regularly. I've still got stuff to 'grab' so to quote Barrett I'm dredging this thread up again...

 

As per usual it's motoring shots and interesting shots of backgrounds and people...

 

This one is a 'Look at Life' film from the Sport DVD called 'Four Men Down' which is all about the Great Britain Bobsleigh team competing at the world championships in Cortina...

 

 

I can't remember his name but this fella is a 'driver'...

 

This bloke is in the team too. He's also a farmer...
