O/T. Where there's blame there's a W.T. Claim.

I've managed to injure myself at work lugging a box that weighs 124kg. Bollocks!

I'm self employed so I can't afford to have a prolonged bout on the sick and I can't even lob a claim in as any compensation would probably be reclaimed back by the Compensation Recovery Unit. A truly shite xmas awaits.

I could understand a small company cutting corners but I was working for a previously nationalised blue chip company that probably wouldn't allow their own members of staff to take such risks. So far I've been steered away from the accident book as well!

FUCKSTICKS!!!

Ouch! Just to make you feel a little better, I went to visit a self-employed mechanic friend of mine yesterday in hospital. He also has no chance of claiming against anyone - he fell over in the kitchen on saturday night (pissed) and broke his hip!

Depending on your situation (I.e if you can afford to piss off employers) you certainly should be making noises and insisting on putting the details in the accident book in case someone else suffers the same fate. What's that compo recovery thing all about by the way? If you get stuck pm me, my brief is fucking ace at this sort of thing.

I feel for you, on that one, bud. I slipped off a trailer deck, while trying to strap down rolls of carpet (I think they shifted, and pitched me off, but I've never been 100% sure of that), and landed on the tarmac on my knees and elbows. One absurdly large bruised knee, and my right radius bone split like firewood later, and I was off for near enough 4 months.

Like you, I was kept well away from the accident book, so no compo claim. Mind you, the fact that I finished the shift regardless, didn't help either  . Lesson learned!

Good luck with the sickness claim - if mine was anything to go by, you'll need it. And remember, if they get one of those clowns to 'assess' you, squeal like a stuck pig if they even look at you in a painful way. That was my second lesson learned; there's no point in being all stoic about it, they expect people to totally overact, and so downgrade whatever they see anyway. Cynical I know, but useful knowledge!

Also see if any of your agencies could give you some office work; mine offered me that, which I couldn't take. Their reasoning was that they could use someone who knew the regs, and the other drivers and customers, to make/take calls. Coming up to this time of year, that might be possible for you. Not top rates, but a sight better than hanging about for the sickness clowns to pay out!

Dunno if you've managed to get to the accident book but irrelevant of that may I say *COUGH* RIDDOR.

Look it up.

If they the employer,(yes yes I know self employed but they have a duty of care for EVERYONE on their premises) fail to report to the reporting Helpline.....beeeeg fine. Prolly more than any compo.........

Oh and thats not some bar stool talk, it's my job  but obv I'm just going on your narrative

wow...really sorry to hear that. I have a semi-irrational fear of ever lifting anything over 30kg or so.

I am sure you can find a way to sue them or at least threaten with it and settle 'amicably'.

I can recommend some solicitors who're rather good at this kind of thing ;)
