DSdriver Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Allision: a nautical term meaning a collision where only one of the objects involved was moving.Wiki says From Latin allisio, French allidere (“to strike or dash againstâ€Â).But I think it means it is ALL YOUR FAULTWhy do I bring this up?Because I have just posted this pic in the SQA threadAfter fifteen months of preparation including a jaunt around Devon and Wales to check out reliability, we had just set out to drive through France and into Spain. We got two miles when I had a lapse of concentration (was adjusting the rear view mirror) and didn't notice that the traffic ahead had stopped.Anyway, we had some spare time before the ferry so I organised recovery and Mrs DSdriver hitched a lift home to get her car. Luggage transferred we continued the holiday in a totally unprepared W reg Pug 206. Are we brave or stupid? Apart from the fact that it is designed around the ergonomics of an orangutang and I had a little bump reversing into a lamp post in the pissing rain and dark cos you cant see out the back of the bloody thing it did the job admirably. We didn't take the easy route either, here it is in the Pyreneese.Back to the plot. The DS has been inspected by Insurance assessor who has agreed a repair price with DS specialists. This needed a bit of bargaining because apparently insurance repairs are not supposed to use second hand parts and the new parts are priced on their last available manufacturers list price. Fine unless you have something made in the 1970s when a new bonnet was eight pounds, seven and sixpence*. The problem is you can't buy a second hand bonnet for that price and you then have to restore it before you can fit it. Thank god I had an agreed value policy and had taken the trouble to have the car valued recently by Nigel and Brian at the CCC.
Pete-M Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Oook, that looks like it was a nice DS beforehand. Any "before" pics?
DSdriver Posted October 22, 2011 Author Posted October 22, 2011 More pics in my FlickR account http://www.flickr.com/photos/dsdriver/page4/ but here's a tasterHere she is alongside my daily driverI forgot to add that no Sprinter vans were badly injured in the allision. Oh and the recovery chap tried to insist that because it was 3pm on a Friday that he would have to put the car into storage till Monday (I could see the pound signs in his eyes) but he was disappointed because Pallas Auto had already agreed to wait until he got there.
Cavcraft Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Ouch! It's actually painful to see that picture, God alone knows how you must feel. Hope you can get it sorted out ok, it's a real shame it's happened to such a nice car.
Pete-M Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Nice colour, too. I've always quite fancied a nice CX GTi Turbo but they're hard to find and ludicrously expensive for good ones. One day, maybe.
Luxobarges_Are_Us Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Glad to see you're getting it sorted! On a related note, I've always wondered what happens to a classic insurance premium after a fault claim. Does it stay the same because 'we know you cherish it innit', go up a little bit, rocket by 400% (that'd still be cheaper than a normal policy, then!) or do they tell you 'eff off, you're a criminal and we won't ever insure you again'?
RedSparrow Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Welcome! Lovely car, hope you can get it sorted without too much bother.
dollywobbler Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 I've got an accident recorded against me after my wife rolled our Minor into a ditch. Doesn't seem to have affected classic premiums at all. Painful to see a DS smashed up but glad you've got the value agreed beforehand! Good luck getting it sorted.
Lord Sterling Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Ouch man, that doesnt look nice. Similar thing happend to me the other day with lapse of concentration (I'd just finished work) I had a small bump into the car in front of me, a old shape Renault Megane. Thankfully all agreed there was no damage and that it was only a minor bump.
