wuvvum Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Got a letter through from the council a couple of weeks ago about the Saab 900, which has been sat on the car park down the road from me with a blown head gasket for a while now. I emailed the woman at the environmental health department saying that I would get it shifted but would need a couple of weeks to do so. She came back to me saying that was fine, and she'd give me till the 17th (next Monday) to get it moved. Come back from work today and it's been lifted, together with the untaxed Omega estate next to it. I am not impressed. I'm hoping the Council don't now try to charge me for towing the car away - would assume the email from them giving me till the 17th would be useful to me should they ever take me to court - but I've still lost the car - OK, it was a bit fucked, but it was going to live again eventually, and it was a great car when it was running. I've now got to try and find out which scrapyard has taken it and see if I can find a way of getting it back. Arse. Not the way I'd planned to spend my Saturday.
scooters Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Nazis! bad luck - this does my nit in when you get this crap - I got it last year fo0r the Sherpa van - just cos I hand't used it for a month - it was taxed, insured and MOTd and in good condition but it is 'old' you see....pricks
greengartside Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Bad times Wuvvum, I shall keep my eyes posted for a 900 in my local yard. I think you're in the same area as me (Norwich) if I remember correctly? Anyhoo - I'll be up there tomorrow so shall try and report back for you....
Cavcraft Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Definately the council that have lifted it, Wuvvum? I'd imagine you'll have some redress if you have it in writing that they wouldn't touch it for an agreed time.Alas it could be cheeky pikeys who've seen the cars not moved in a bit (or looking abandoned) and Hiab'd them onto their truck.
maxpower Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 if it was the council that took it then it would be taken to a pound for a certain number of days in order for you to reclaim the car... i can't see them scrapping it right away... if it is in a scrappy then its down to pikeys
TimothyClaypole Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 They (Barnsley Council) did the same to a MK1 Scirocco I had and I never got it back and it never went through the yard they said either.
Volksy Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 In Leeds the contract for Vehicle removal is with NCP, as in the car park bods. They should keep the vehicle for 7-14 days (They will charge you storage for this however). Worth approaching the council and see what happens.
Pete-M Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 the untaxed Omega estate next to it. Was it a fast one? I'd quite like a 3.0 or 3.2 one... Jolly poor bloody show from those pesky council types though. Just not cricket.
wuvvum Posted October 15, 2011 Author Posted October 15, 2011 the untaxed Omega estate next to it. Was it a fast one? I'd quite like a 3.0 or 3.2 one...Nah. 2.5 GLS auto. Still not a bad motor though. Strangely, the Mercedes V-class that's been sat on the car park for three years now with no tax, flat tyres and covered in mildew is still there. Maybe they turned up in a 3.5-tonner and it was too heavy for them to take legally*.
R9UKE Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 Was it a fast one? I'd quite like a 3.0 or 3.2 one... My aunt has a 3.2 V6 Signum. Absolute animal, and being a 53 reg it's worth peanuts now. I intend to be the next owner!
Luxobarges_Are_Us Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Got a letter through from the council a couple of weeks ago about the Saab 900, which has been sat on the car park down the road from me with a blown head gasket for a while now. The small claims process (aka moneyclaimonline) is completely painless and quite cheap (plus you'll most likely get your costs back from them).
wuvvum Posted October 17, 2011 Author Posted October 17, 2011 Got a quite pleasant email from the environmental health woman at the council this morning, assuring me that the removal of the Saab had nothing to do with the council and offering her assistance should it be needed in finding out what had happened. I would possibly have been skeptical, but the boss of the scrapyard which has the council contract is a mate of a mate and he assured me on Saturday that he hadn't had anything come through on the Saab. Other local investigations carried out by myself would seem to corroborate this. So it looks like it's been pikey'd. Neighbour reckons the pikeys were about during the week asking for scrap metal, so maybe they saw it there looking abandoned and came back for it. I'm thankful they didn't damage the Talbot, which was parked very close to the Saab, but they are still thieving cunts. Have reported it to the old bill, but would imagine it's probably been weighed in by now - probably in bits as you can't weigh in whole cars without a V5 any more.
Pete-M Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Any news about the Omega? That was lifted too wasn't it?
wuvvum Posted October 17, 2011 Author Posted October 17, 2011 Any news about the Omega? That was lifted too wasn't it?Nope. I did wonder whether whoever took the Omega had decided to help themselves to the Saab at the same time, but the old boy over the road said he was walking his dog past the car park on Friday early afternoon and he reckoned the Omega had already gone but the Saab was still there. Not sure who the Omega belonged to so can't make any further enquiries there at the moment.
wuvvum Posted October 18, 2011 Author Posted October 18, 2011 Just had the old bill round re the Saab. After the copper had spoken to me he went down to look at the car park and knocked on a few neighbours' doors, and it looks like it was definitely pikey'd - apparently somebody saw it going off up the road on the back of a Transit on Friday afternoon. So it's probably been broken up & weighed in by now. Oh well.
