What do people say about your Classic?

Most people just don't get the old car thing. I mean if I just wanted any old cheap banger I would go and buy an Astra or the like off e-bay, not go to the trouble of importing a Renault 14 from France, most of the uninformed comments are something like "why don't you buy a decent car".

People just laugh and/or are rude when you say "I have an Austin Allegro", the trouble is that the two I have owned haven't been driven much and spent most of my ownership on the drive so that just re-inforces their predjucices!!

The Maxi and the 1100 almost always got admiring glances and comments I think the colour helped on the Maxi and most people think that ADO16's are pretty! A lot of people seemed to have had Maxi's in their life at some point whether as a child or an adult, people seemed to get very nostalgic about the Maxi.

The Renault gets the most interest, when it was at the garage awaiting its first MOT everyone was asking about it. One of the first comments I had was "I can understand why you want an Austin Maxi but why have you now bought a Citroen?!!"

I think most people just think I am weird and have given up questioning my car buying habits!!

My neighbours make slightly snide comments, the other day the 14 was described as "French Crap". I should have pointed out that it wasn't crap a few months ago when I used it to jump start his '05 plate Rover 45 - I was kicking myself afterwards. I won't forget next time though!

I brought the 505 to work on Saturday and the receptionist said to me--"Would you not feel like a tool driving around in that"?---and that comes from a 20 something who wouldnt be exactly shy

Exactly the sort of moron I hate. OMG it's more than 5 years old so it must be crap, it's more than 20 years old, OMG do you not feel a tool?

"That's rare" or "They all rusted away" about the Laurel. Probably the odd banger racing comment too.

Nothing about the Camrys as far as I recall, which is the point of them.

The 604 completely stumps most people.

Even car nuts have no idea what it is.

Police cars follow you until they have looked on their computer thing to figure out what it is and then disappear.

I did get a fellow of I would guess of African descent get very very excited when he saw me on the M25 once. He was jumping on his seat, waving and had a huge grin on his face.

That's one thing you'll get used to :) When I was back at university in Australia, there was an Indian girl from Kenya and she almost wet her pants with excitement when she saw that I had a 504 :) I guess it's always nice to be reminded of home :) I hated Monaro's and Commodores and Falcon's when I was back in Australia but when I see one here it's always a nice moment.

Funnily enough, the first thing that I always said to people when they questioned me about old Renaults, I said that even the electric windows still work(UNLIKE THE CURRENT ONES)...to which one guy said to me lately-" I see Renault are bringing out electric cars, before they can get electric windows to work!----HE HAS A POINT

Heres another I've just thought of. If ever I do find someone who actually appreciates my car for what it is (Read: dazzle them with the rear electric seats) I get this standard reply, and it really grates me:

Nice car man, you should stick some nice alloys on it (Read: Crappy cheap Halford blingy alloys) and/or a spoiler and cruise it.

WTF man, seriously.
