Garage door cable snapped.

Opened the Safranes garage door last night and was greated by a large bang, and the cable has broken!

It appears to be a twin cable set up as one cable is still moving and the door isn,t to heavy to lift, but has anyone replaced one of these cables,i bought a pair of cables from fleabay, its a Garador MK3,anyone done one?

sounds as tricky as replacing the window cables on an XM!! Skinned knuckles - buised head and much swearing

Its a 2 man job really - the cables are under tension with a VERY big spring at the top of the door, I havent replaced one, but did take one out untensioning the spring which was an epic phail and nearly took my hand off.

Yeah,i was thinking the same.but i fancy having a go,it seems sort of straight foward....

Just done one at my dad's place - relatively straightforward in the end, but required a bit of brute force i.e. the two of us had to pull the cable against the spring tension, as per the instructions. Pair of cables off Ebay for £4.99 (instructions included, but available online via a quick google search) - make sure you get the right length though as there are two door widths.

Yeah its a 7 foot wide door,i went for them, just have to wait and see, only worry was that they mention removing a plastic cover, mine is a metal setup, hope they are right, the pic on the instructions look right.

I've just been chatting about this with a work mate funny enough, he's had had to get a specialist out to fix his one, they replaced both his ropes and charged £65, it took over a hour to fix and he said it seems to have been quite taxing.
